Description: STUART 42 FT TASSIE CRAY BOAT HULL
NOT FOR SALE
Then why put it in these pages?
Because it is long past the time that a statement is made about Australian Designed and built boats.
This is a not for profit project that will employ Australian professional craftsmen, and use local suppliers of quality marine fittings and hardware.
This is a ballasted boat with 1.5 to 2 ton of encapsulated lead, which gives it a righting moment down to and beyond 95 degrees.
This will be a long range ocean crossing vessel, with an aft wheelhouse, and forward facing windows.
Stabilising wings will be fitted, that exit the hull under the water line and retract into twin centre board casings, that will be situated in to the engine room compartment
The project started in March of this year, and will be
launched in around 15 months.

Remarks
This project is as much about creating a timeless shape, and also local employment, rather than bringing in an imported boat. Therefore I have put together a small but professional team of boat builders, engineers, and technicians to create an offshore cruising motor vessel, based on a Tasmanian cray boat hull.
Australian boat builders find it difficult to compete with overseas companies, in labour costs, and many of our local boat building companies are planning to move offshore as well. There are still a few small boat building enterprises, such as Kevin Dick and sons of Noosa, and Barry Martin of Assagai marine
that still put quality long before profit. It would be a shame to lose the skills and dedication, and the ongoing apprentice training, inherited from master craftsmen such as these.
The last two pictures are of well known Tasmanian cray boats. They are designed and built to work the waters of Bass Strait and the west coast. Both of these boats have one thing in common, that give them the ability to work in southern waters. They both have a low centre of gravity, and the only part of the hull that is high is the bow for obvious reasons. Designs may change to suit the markets needs, but the sea never changes, and it has little respect for boats with a high centre of gravity Admire and appreciate these rugged and classic shapes, as when they are gone, there will be no one left with the skills to create them again.
By supporting Jim Stuart Marine Brokerage you are also supporting, in a small way Australian boat builders, and local ships chandlery suppliers along with all facets of the marine industry. THIS WILL HELP KEEP JOBS IN AUSTRALIA.
