Description: Carvel Custom
'Meralte' is a classic Carvel planked open boat built restored to the best of its potential. It has a Jarrah bottom with hoop pine (Piranha Pine) uppers, WA Karri/spotted gum ribs, 5mm teak deck over 10mm marine ply. Like all boats of this era it has allot of history. 'Meralte' was built in Port Adelaide in 1950 for day fishing originally fitted with a centreboard, mast, sail and motor. She spent many years in Cape Jervis before starting her new life in American River, Kangaroo Island. The origin of the name is "High Seas" she was owned and used by the Bates family for many years in 1998 the Turner brothers took on the project of restoring her to her former glory. Her ongoing maintenance regime includes oiling the deck yearly antifouling and routine engine maintenance. She was re corked using traditional methods. This boat will be missed by its current owners as they have a strong connection to her history my job is to find someone prepared to care for her and use her for cruising fishing and leisure she still has many years of fun in her.
