Description: Purdon & Featherstone 42 Launch "Awittaka"
ABSOLUTELY UNIQUE. Built in 1947 and only two owners. Classic huon pine launch in exceptional condition. "Awittaka" is listed on the Australian Register of Historic Vessels held by the Australian National Maritime Museum and her history is impeccable. Originally owned by the builder, Mr. Frederick Clyde Featherstone of legendery Battery Point boatbuilders Purdon and Featherstone for the first 22 years of her life, "Awittaka" was purchased by the present owners in 1969 and has been maintained with no expense spared, being regularly used and obviously cherished ever since. Stepping aboard is an experience! Many original fittings are still as installed by the builders - light switches, lamps, door furniture etc. Yet a modern 120hp diesel drives this beautiful hull and the boat has been carefully upgraded over the years. "Awittaka" lies on a mooring just a few hundred metres from the boatyard where she first slid into the waters of the Derwent over sixty years ago and Mr Featherstone would be delighted if he could step aboard her today.

A capable coastal motor cruiser with mast for steadying sail. Cruised from Hobart to Flinders Island a number of times.
"Awittaka" is truly a piece of Australian maritime history and a tangible link with the days of top quality boat building and stylish boating. She is a delight to behold and we are proud to have a part in finding a new owner to continue her story.
