Description: 1892 Gaff-rigged Yacht"Clara"
Pretty as a picture, completely restored and ready for another century afloat! Built in about 1892,"Clara" is a gaff-rigged cruising yacht, designed and built in Tasmania of kauri. She has a well-documented history in a succession of owners and had undergone several conversions when the present owners bought her in 2011. She is now for sale in exceptional condition at the end of a very comprehensive refit at the world-renowned Wooden Boat Centre in Franklin, Tasmania. With traditional round bilge, straight stem, wineglass transom and centreboard, she now looks very much as she did in her prime, just prior to World War 1. A new Yanmar diesel complements the new mast, rigging and sails all constructed in a traditional manner in modern materials.

Remarks
Refitted in 2014. Over $130,000 spent. Original planking retained but fully splined to make completely watertight. Only the top strake and about 6 ft of planking at stern waterline replaced (with celery top pine). Ribs mostly as fitted in the 1970s were in excellent condition, a small number were replaced/sistered mostly as part of general strengthening of the hull to take full sail again. The history of the vessel has been well researched. Full details of the refit are available and step-by-step photos. Receipts available (though the owner is too nervous to add them up!)
