Description: 48' Classic Staysail Ketch "New Silver Gull"
"New Silver Gull" is a rare and special classic stays'l ketch. The current owners purchased her in 1989 in a bad state and put their heart and soul (and money) into bringing her back to what is quite probably better than when new in 1939. The quality of the craftsmanship, the level of equipment and general presentation is world class.

The refit and upgrading process has been undertaken with the desire to retain as much as possible, the traditional boat feel and appearance. The furniture in the saloon and galley is all polished timber, with leather covers and laid Beech cabin soles. Where possible, 21st century 'luxuries', such as microwave oven, air-conditioning, washing machine, TV and electronics are discretely hidden behind closed doors or panels. This then gives a feel of a 'gentlemen's club' atmosphere below.

This fine vessel has thousands of sea miles under her keel proving she is more than just a pretty boat.

Remarks
Brief history:
Original owners, Harry and Oceana Newton-Scott, sailed the Gull from Sydney in 1946 to Chicago via Hobart, Auckland, Fiji, Canton Island, Honolulu, British Columbia, San Francisco, Caribbean and US East Coast to the Great Lakes. 12 years later, she returned to Australia via the US Inter Continental Waterway, West Indies, Panama, Marquesas, Cook Islands, Fiji, and Vanuatu. All this with just a sextant, compass, trailing log and accurate time keeping device.
Current owners found the yacht laid up in the Clarence River in 1989, and have spent most of the time since, slowly bringing her back to her former state. Her travels since 1989 have taken her from Hobart to the top of the Queensland East coast. 'The Gull' has been granted historical Yacht status by the Australian National Maritime Museum.
