Description: Phantom 33 Sloop S&S type cruiser / racer built to LLoyds standards
Phantom Yachts were built to exceed standards laid down by Lloyds and USL Code for GRP yachts. They were designed on the lines of the S&S 34, and with strength and seaworthiness in mind. The Phantom 33 is strong and fast little cruising yacht, capable of serious ocean cruising, yet with a good turn of speed and pointing ability. Easy to handle for a beginner, sail single handed, affordable to maintain as very little timber is exposed to the sun, but with a charming interior, the Phantom ticks a lot of boxes.

'Phantasm' is a well presented, and comprehensively equipped Phantom 33 offered for sale for the time in 7 years with only two owners since launched in 1992.
As Phantoms were mostly built to order, each new owner decided with the builder on the layout and level of luxury of the accommodation. This why some Phantoms are quite basic inside, while others lavish beautiful timbers and far greater level of skills visible in the joinery, cabinetry, etc. And 'Phantasm' is certainly one of them!
We first saw 'Phantasm' as she sat steadily at her mooring in a stiff 25 knots breeze, while other boats danced figures of eight and would have been far more uncomfortable. Her high topsides and moderate tumble-home meant that she would remain dry at sea, while still remaining easy to board thanks to her good size marlin board, which is also equipped with a strong stainless steel ladder, which will be great to use after a swim.
Her decks are easy and safe to walk around, and her cockpit is surprisingly large for a 33' yacht. The Bimini was removed after it was torn in the last winter gale, but the frame is intact and ready for new canvas. The wheel is sturdily mounted on a pedestal which would suit a much bigger cruising yacht, but does not overpower the cockpit. A good size plotter and sailing instruments are mounted to it for easy accessibility. Her winches are self-tailing and protected with good quality covers, and of adequate size to allow for easier sail-handling, especially when short handed. The sheets are all run aft and well secured with deck organizers. Generally, the deck and cockpit looks tidy and well organized, with everything needed for safe coastal sailing or to venture further afield.
A big bonus is the electric anchor winch, which can be controlled from the cockpit as well as the bow, a true luxury that many people on far more expensive and bigger boats wished they had!
'Phantasm's running rigging is in good condition, and her standing rigging was replaced in 2010. Her sails are in good shape, with a new UV strip on the Genoa. Her sails wardrobe includes an MPS that has hardly been used.

Going back to the cockpit, we were surprised at the amount of storage available. A huge locker on the starboard side houses a large cockpit table, that is easily mounted to pedestal, fenders, ropes, etc, with plenty of room to spare.
There are also several smaller compartments all around, perfect for smaller items and to keep everything organized.
Opening the companionway, we were charmed when discovering the accommodation.
The cabin is a display of exquisite shipwright's skills, with an abundance of silky timbers, tasteful and functional layout, and a way to use the space that is quite extraordinary. The galley is well equipped, with a full size stove with oven and grill, a well insulated top loading fridges (eutectic) beneath beautifully laminated timber, plenty of dedicated storage compartments and a double sink with pressurized hot and cold water as well as a foot pump.
The navigation table is of good size, and equipped with a clearly labelled and well organized electrical board. There is a large single or small double berth aft, perfect as a pilot berth.
A single berth or crew berth run along the port side, with opposite the saloon / dinette, which is comfortable for 6 people and converts to a double berth. A flat screen TV (aerial is mounted at the top of the mast) is mounted to the wall above.
There is ample storage compartment and lockers around the saloon as well as under the seats.
The master cabin is accessed through a door to the bow section, with another door to stbd. To the head and shower area.
The master cabin is of good proportion, with a comfortable V berth and storage lockers, overhead hatch for good lighting and good headroom.
The head area is fitted with a hot and cold shower (there is also another hot and cold shower in the cockpit as well as a deck wash), marine head with holding tank, wash basin and storage.

Overall, this fantastic little yacht presents in lovely condition that will surprise anyone comparing her with other 33' to 35' yachts with her level of comfort and generosity of accommodation. 'Phantasm' has always been cherished and looked after as one of the family. She is a solid, capable little ship at just as at home in a twilight race (thanks to her S&S type hull shape), than she would be en route to the Whitsundays and beyond.
