Description: Westsail 33'
The current owners of 'Barnabas' originally named 'Whare Tai' (pronounced fari tai) built by Westsail Ltd in Fremantle, chose her for the exceptional strength of construction and seagoing capabilities of this successful Colin Archer design. Their intention being to cruise the Queensland coast and then into the Pacific.
Whare Tai started off as a 33 foot, fibreglass hull and deck. She was commissioned by a retired Tugboat captain Gordon Lawrence to be built to survey and then ‘add another two layers of glass’. As the story goes, she was one of the last Westsail’s made before the Australian company closed. Sheathed in epoxy to resist osmosis, the second owner bought her, some time later from the good captain and devoted two full years to complete the construction, using 140kg of teak in the fitout alone. The current owner spoke at length with him by phone and he described how no expense was spared to build and equip this boat of his dreams. As an antique restorer, all of the wood has been meticulously crafted to the highest standard with teak featuring prominently. She was finally launched in 1993.
Having recently completed their waterborne adventures, the current owners have decided to put this wonderful ocean going yacht on the market.

Remarks
This Westsail design offered many the opportunity to get involved in the 'Cruising Life'. As a heavy displacement double ender designed for long distance cruising, this yacht offers seaworthiness owing to their strong and heavy construction combining huge interior volume for their size. 'Barnabas' has been well loved by her previous owners and it shows, it's been a comfortable home to the current owner's family in recent times. Those seriously in the market for a yacht of this type are encouraged to inspect 'Barnabas' as she is a good example of the class! Hull and deck built 1985 but only launched in 1993.
