Description: Classic Edwardian Styled Launch Encumbrance Check?
Beautiful, elegant and modern - built in the style of a classic timber Edwardian River Thames Steam Launch suitable for sheltered waterways such as Moreton Bay, Pittwater etc. Reminiscent of an earlier era when diesel and petrol engines were in their infancy, S. L. Elizabeth Rose provides an experience of leisurely boating with power from a quiet slow revving simple steam engine.

7.32m x 1.98m x 0.51m (24ft x 6ft 6in x 20in) on a twin axle trailer with an ATM approaching 2000kg.

First launched in 2000 on Pittwater, Sydney, the fibreglass hull was one of 12 built by Debco Marine in Port Lincoln from a slightly modified Philip Bolger fantail launch design. The decks and gunwales are Burmese teak and the cockpit fitout is Honduran mahogany. Polished brass and bronze fittings are used exclusively throughout.

The steam engine is a double acting single cylinder, with hull speed achieved around 275 rpm driving a 14"x19" prop geared to twice engine speed and operates much more quietly than a comparable diesel engine. The vertical fire tube boiler will burn timber, briquettes or coal.

The drawbar of the trailer is hinged and the canopy + stanchions and funnel are easily removed for storage in a garage or low height shed.

The history of the construction of S. L. Elizabeth is documented with text and photos in a PhotoBook.

S. L. Elizabeth Rose will be moored in Cockle Bay/Darling Harbour for the Sydney Classic and Wooden Boat Festival from Friday April 15 - Sunday April 17.
