Located on the main deck, the accommodation consists of engine control room, wash room, officer's shower/toilet, galley, mess room and the two single cabins for the Master and Engineer. A companionway forward gives access down to a 4 berth cabin to port and a single cabin to starboard (there is access through to the forepeak tank and chain locker inspection plates from the single cabin). A companionway aft gives access down to 1 x 4man cabin stbd and storeroom. There is access from the port aft cabin through into the aft lazarette. The lazarette contains the emergency fire pump. There are inspection plates in the lazarette to the aft peak tank and aft ballast tanks port and starboard.
The galley is equipped with a four ring electric stove, stainless steel bench, fridges, freezer and microwave oven.
The large clear working deck area is equipped with Rapp Hydema Towing winch fitted with 119t BS winch line. This and the towing eye were fitted new in 2002. The fendering around the stern of the vessel was upgraded with large rubber fenders at this time.
In 2011 a purpose built 3T tugger winch was fitted as well as stern roller and second hand 1T Hiab.
A tow hook is fitted to work in conjunction with the tugger for quick release of gear on deck but limited to 3T capacity.

Kupe has a two deck superstructure with a flying bridge above the wheelhouse. The vessel is divided into 6 compartments. The forepeak/anchor locker, Forward crew accommodation, Engine Room, Aft crew accommodation, Aft lazarette, Aft peak tank.
The main deck accommodation comprises the officer's accommodation, washrooms, galley, mess room and Engine control room. The upper deck contains the wheelhouse with a flying bridge above. The flying bridge contains a full set of duplicate controls.
The wheelhouse is accessed via a companionway up from the main deck and from doors on both sides aft. The wheelhouse is large and well laid out with good visibility forward and to the sides. The view aft to the towing winch is partially obscured by the large funnel casing. A central engine control station has duplicate Voith controls port and starboard. This arrangement is replicated on the flying bridge with interconnected mechanical controls.
The Kupe is equipped with a selection of electronic navigation and communication equipment as required for operation as a harbour tug.
Engine Room and Machinery
The Kupe is powered by two Ruston Paxman/English Electric 6CSRKM Mk3 turbo charged diesel engines developing 1350hp at 900 rpm. These engines have logged 30,414 hours since new. The engines are maintained to Lloyds Register requirements. The starboard engine has a power take-off to the main fire pump which is now decommissioned. Auxiliary power is provided by 2 x Caterpillar D343 200hp turbocharged diesel engines driving 128Kw Macfarlane Markon alternators. The engine room is clean and tidy and the machinery maintained in good condition. The bilges appeared to be clean and dry.
