Comments from owner :

Lake Argyle is home to the only population of Silver Cobbler (Neoarius midgeleyi) available to commercial fishing in Australia and is the primary fish population in the lake. This species is considered one of the best eating freshwater fish in Australia and have an established market in Perth. They can reach 1.5m long and weigh up to 40kg with the majority going to market in the 3-5kg range.

This fishery is a gillnet fishery with a total allowable net length of 1500 metres and a maximum drop of 6m with a minimum net size of 6 1/4 inches. This is made up of 30 nets each of 50m in length. The fishery has a closed season during November and December which leaves a possible number of 304 fishing days.

According to records from the W. A. Fisheries and Water Corporation, daily catch per unit effort (CPUE) indicate that daily catches generally average between 180kg and 320kg per day in years when the wet season exceeds the 10,000GL storage capacity of the lake and between 150kg and 250kg per day when the wet is not that strong.

The current market price in Perth is $8.50 per kg for trunks (headed and gutted) around $20 per kilogram for fillets. Maximum annual yields can exceed 60 tonnes.

This is an ideal family or local community / business opportunity producing an income utilizing natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Price : $195,000 as a "going concern".
