Description: Clayton Marine Gallant 7.4
The 7.4M (24 Foot) Clayton Gallant - "Pecalin"
This vessel was built by Clayton Peake, Clayton Marine in Adelaide S. A. And customised to the original owner's requirements, ie. It had to be a stable boat with unquestionable offshore capabilities, fibreglass hull between 22 and 24 feet long with a diesel inboard drive and capable of cruising at 20 knots or faster. He had checked around Australia and could not find a fibreglass builder that could build him a vessel longer than 20 feet with a full inboard drive. Only aluminium boat builders could build this spec but given he wanted to leave the vessel moored in salt water with a minimum of maintenance, he did not believe aluminium to be suitable.
It was then he noticed Rex Hunt had 8 metre vessel moored at Patterson Lakes and it was built by Clayton Marine.
Mr Clayton Peake of Clayton Marine arranged a visit to see a nearly completed 22 feet vessel with Jet Drive being built for an Abalone Fisherman.
After long discussion, Clayton agreed to build a 24-foot vessel with a 230 HP Volvo Inboard motor to the following specifications.
