Description: Custom Timber Converted Army Workboat 40'
"Paterson" is one of the highly regarded utility vessels known as Army Workboats (AWB), originally built for various government departments to a robust standard, now beautifully converted to pleasure craft by quality shipwrights, with a functional layout which includes both aft cabin and a decent external cockpit. "Paterson" was constructed by Botterill & Fraser, one of the trusted government contractors, and launched in 1944. Construction is in heavy oregon planking, and she is powered by a 6 cylinder Detroit diesel of approx. 170 hp. This is a character filled craft with a superb pedigree.
The spacious interior includes a twin cabin down forward, with ensuite head and separate shower room, huge saloon/helm midships adjoining the galley, and aft cabin which has comfortable seating/settee berths and opens through double doors to the rear cockpit area. There is ample headroom throughout the interior, and a light bright ambience thanks to the generous windows. Wide side decks are also a bonus. "Paterson" was slipped for her annuals in August 2019 which included a 3 coat respray of her topsides. Cabin and deck repainting is currently in progress.
Current 'caretakers' have loved and improved her, and they offer her to the market with reluctance. Their attention to detail is obvious, from the dry and fully refurbished bilges to the quality nautical memorabilia and fittings lavished throughout the cabins. They have made "Paterson' into an enviable and cosy cruiser, admired by all who know her.
Ideal for cruising the Gippsland Lakes in style, she also has the strength and pedigree for comfortable coastal cruising.
