The Krogen 54' has taken on the world with quiet confidence and remarkable comfort. She has braved the cruelest of seas and been a luxurious loll-about in exotic tropical waters. The Krogen 54' remains that rare can-do yacht that serious yachtsmen seek. No wonder a 54' so rarely becomes available.

As one of the larger yachts in the classic Kadey-Krogen fleet, the Krogen 54' in concept and design, is nautically unique. Her seagoing heritage stems from the rugged North Sea fishing vessels that must work on, whatever the weather. Yet her creature comforts rival the finest custom builds.

The late James S. Krogen earned his stripes mastering the stringent demands of commercial design. Yet he never let his dedication to performance blind him to the prerequisites of pleasurable cruising. With 30 years of expertise and no end of ingenuity, James S. Krogen successfully merged solid, safe and sturdy design with innovative concepts for living aboard with ease and elegance in the design of the Krogen 54'.

Thus the Krogen 54' with her clean, honest, yet non-conformist lines voyages to and rests proudly in any port in the world.

The Classic 54' provides high comfort on the high seas. She was created to travel in tri-level style with first class accommodations and amenities.

The Krogen 54' was scrupulously planned for long-range enjoyment at sea and at anchor. Even today, she provides exceptional living. She was built to entertain like a socialite, offering both the luxury of privacy and broad-beamed spaciousness stretching stem to stern. The expansive saloon opens wide to the world with view finding picture windows. The U-turn galley is planned with epicurean efficiency to include such live-in help as eye-level refrigerator-freezer, double stainless steel sink, propane range with grill, and an abundance of cabinet and drawer space.

Below decks and amidships in the classic 54' rests the gracious master stateroom. Handsome headquarters for queen size sleeping plus an adjoining head with full tub plus whirlpool bath. Directly to port: a washer/dryer, linen locker and additional storage.

Further forward are the den and... Or stateroom plus a third stateroom and head with shower. Schematically the Krogen 54' reflects an in-depth attention to design and detail that turns seagoing practicality into an impressive horizon-to-horizon home.

Even today the bold, powerful Krogen 54' is as functional as it is handsome with her jaunty steadying sails and sly crow's nest. The precisely turned wineglass transom and stern of the displacement hull rises out of the water for minimum drag, maximum fuel efficiency. At full throttle she'll command over 10 knots. At 8 knots she'll ungrudgingly cruise from Samoa to Tahiti or any 2,500-mile course you chart. At 7 knots she'll travel non-stop for 3500 miles.

The hull and topsides of the Krogen 54' were built of AIREX sandwich construction with deep layers of mat and glass roving. This construction remains one of the most enduring and safest afloat. (Closed-cell PVC foam core is absolutely impervious to water. No deterioration. No absorption. ) The composite structure serves both as a buoyancy material and shock, sound and temperature insulator. It rides extremely quiet, greatly increases impact strength and eliminates condensation build up inside the hull.

Decks and superstructure were built of a DIVINYCELL sandwich construction. Foredeck and boat deck were molded with a non-skid surface. Aft deck and starboard side decks were built with a teak overlay.

All exterior trim, joiner work, cabinetry, paneling and beam-caps were hand-constructed of fine teak. Countertops were all topped with durable Formica.

'URSA MAJOR' is a 1988 built Krogen 54 Trawler Yacht stacked with features to make her a fantastic liveaboard, global travelling yacht. 54' LOD, 17' beam, 5'6" draft, full length keel. Twin Ford Lehman 135hp diesels, Racor filters, fuel polishing and oil change system. In-mast furling mainsail, 15kW generator, Naiad stabilisers, 2271 LPD Watermaker, Wesmar bow thruster, 4542 litres diesel, 2271 litres fresh water, twin 250W solar panels, Lewmar winches, Marquip davit, Maxwell 3500 windlass, 11' dinghy with 25hp outboard, 4 x 12,000 btu air conditioners. 2 x Nova Kool refrigerators (2015), 1 x Nova Kool freezer (2012), Force 10 4-burner LPG stove/oven, Microwave, Corain countertops.

Crusing range of 2500nm at 8 knots, 3500nm at 7 knots @ 1500rpm, maximum of 9 knots. Three cabin layout features mid-cabin Master with walk-around Queen bed in fore and aft configuration. An abundance of stroage space including over 6' of hanging space. Ensuite head forward of Master with jetted bathtub and inbuilt shower. Electric toilet.

The saloon features an open living area with 3 Stressless chairs, 2 ottomans and a built-in Settee with storage under. Five windows providing wonderful natural light for relaxing in the saloon. The spacious interior provides ample room for a large table and chairs. Overhead teak stripped ceilings complete the traditional feel while the twin overhead handrails provide security at sea. The aft deck of the 54' Krogen is unique because of the classic and distinctive canoe stern. There is a fixed settee that wraps around the canoe stern and a half moon teak table making it an ideal place to entertain. Double teak doors with custom screen doors open the Saloon to the "back porch" cockpit. A teak door leads to a covered walkway up the starboard side of the boat providing access to the bow. For convenience there is a hot cold shower next to the boarding gangway for washing down after a swim. The entire cockpit is enclosed with isinglass and screens.

The spacious Galley is forward and to starboard from the saloon and is separated by the raised counter. This offers some screening for the chef while allowing them to stay connected to the activity in the saloon. A convenient Bar Cabinet area (plumbed for icemaker) is opposite the Galley

Master Stateroom
The master stateroom is mid-ship for less motion while voyaging, 3-steps down from the Galley with a queen walk-around bed situated fore and aft. There is abundant storage in multiple drawers under the bed, a dresser, nightstands, bookshelves and over 6' of hanging locker space. With two port holes and deck prisms as well as three portholes in the companionway, there is abundant light and ventilation providing an open and airy feel to the stateroom.

Ensuite Head
The ensuite head is forward of the stateroom, featuring a jetted bathtub with built-in shower and glass shower doors as well as abundant counter and locker space. There is also an electric toilet, Corian counters and ceramic tile floor. For light and ventilation there is an opening port and deck prism.

Guest Stateroom
The forward guest stateroom features a double bed with a seat and an abundant amount of storage. Being in the bow, this stateroom has four portholes and a hatch for wonderful light and ventilation especially at anchor as the ports funnel the breeze right into the cabin. The forward location provides privacy to all when guest are aboard.

Office / 2nd Guest Stateroom
The Office/ 2nd stateroom is midship on the port side of the boat forward of the master stateroom. It features a full sized settee with the back that hinges up to form a second berth in a tradition over under bunk design. This space makes a great office, storage room or work space when additional guest are not aboard.

Guest Head
The guest head is across the companionway from both guest cabins on the starboard side and features a large stall shower with seat, electric head, Corian counter and ceramic tile floor. It is quite bright and airy with two opening portholes, one of which faces forward for great ventilation while on the hook.

The pilothouse is up three steps from the galley and offers wonderful views in all directions. There are Custom Aluminum sliding side doors along with two rear opening windows and the center forward windshield opens for ventilation while underway or at anchor. The pilothouse also has a double berth and there is also an abundance of storage and charting spaces throughout the pilothouse.

As Kadey Krogen's representative to the Australian and New Zealand markets, I am able to offer much assistance with regard to organising pre-purchase survey inspections of the vessel, and can also assist in arranging insurance and shipping to Australia, should this be required. Please note that Kadey Krogens are more than capable of crossing the Pacific or Atlantic Oceans, having done so before.

Delivery will take place in the US, and prospective buyers should be aware that the cruising grounds in the US and Caribbean are amongst some of the finest in the World.

Perfectly design vessel for extended liveaboard and long distance cruising - my favourite design from the desk of James Krogen. All surveys and shipping can be arranged for you, as well as help organising importation. This is a 110v vessel, but I am able to advise for 240v shore power conversion.

This would also make an incredible holiday adventure for those who might lke to take advantage of the vessel's Florida location to explore the Caribbean and East Coast of the USA before bringing her back to Australia or reselling in the US.
