FASTBACK BY JOHN GROSS 35'
The Fastback catamaran designed and built by John Gross is unique in many ways and is a proven design with great performance. The last four built were loa 33' and a much improved version of the ever populsr 30 and 32's the first of which was launched in 1985. Improvements included an extra 4 inches in deck height giving a roomier interior and a totally remodeled saloon.
Light and fast, especially in light winds these boats are easily managed single handed. They do not have any nasty habits and even the novice sailor will feel confident and safe aboard.
Leucothea (White Goddess of the Sea in Greek mythology) was the last Fastback built and was launched in September 2009. Originally built as a 33 she was extended in 2011 with extended transoms and raised duckboard. The extended transoms make access from the tender to the full width duckboard easily managed in most conditions. The generous wing deck clearance ensures smooth sailing when under way and pleasant conditions at anchor. These aspects are vital for a comfortable life aboard.
Leucothea is set up for cruising and has completed several trips north to the Whitsundays and beyond. The owners find her comfortable for extended periods of time aboard.
She has an extensive inventory sporting full Raymarine instrumentation including chart plotter, radar, fishfinder, depth, wind and log instruments and autopilot.
The galley has a 3 burner gas stove, range hood and a Maxi gas oven is available. An ICEER eutectic refrigerator (120lt fridge and 40lt freezer) double stainless sinks, a stainless steel BBQ and two gas bottles complete the package.
There is a unique rainwater collection system from the deck to the water tanks and water capacity up to approx. 400 litres in four separate tanks is available.
Ground tackle includes 60 metres of chain (new) and two plow anchors. Maxwell anchor winch, 3 fenders, a boat hook and sufficient mooring lines.
Safety gear includes flare set, fire extinguisher, fire blanket, V sheet, 6 PFD's and sealed floatation chambers built in forward, centre and aft sections of the hulls.
Sail inventory provides a working jib, genoa, mainsail and MPS all in good condition.
The electrical system has two 130 watt solar panels, one 200 amp hour AGM batteries (new), 400 watt wind generator and a separate starting battery with a trickle charge solar panel. Navman VHF radio, 20" television, GME radio/USB/CD stereo system and 2 power inverters.
Power comes fro a single 20hp Yanmar diesel engine (850 hours) mounted east west on the wing deck with an extended and saildrive leg to a 16 inch propeller. The leg retracts moving the prop out of the water when under sail or idle.
Fuel tank capacity 80 litres.
Accomodation includes a saloon over the wing deck, two double cabins and three other spaces that can be used as bunks. Shower and toilet (with holding tank) are located aft in the starboard hull. Instant gas hot water system to the shower.
Construction is solid fiberglass using vinylester in the hulls. The deck is fiberglass with a foam core. There is a recently installed carbon fibre hardtop over the cockpit area. There is ample locker space.
