Contact for photos and more info. Australian Registered Ship. This is an evolution of the Classic Halvorsen Freya - the famous Sydney to Hobart winning design. Custom built for High Latitude sailing, or for those who value safety and comfort, without sacrificing speed. For remote cruising and long distance passage making, the Hull and the onboard range of over-spec fittings, and a long list of features give you built in redundancy, which make this a proverbial "go anywhere" boat. Fully insulated with excellent ventilation there is no condensation and is as happy in the tropics as the arctic.
With the changing unpredictability of our climate she gives great confidence and peace of mind in handling the ever more present bom storms and micro bursts that are increasingly becoming the norm on longer passages.
The surveyor made the comment that this was the first boat he had examined that he felt could be taken anywhere in the world safely.
Please feel free to visit the website www. Halvorsenfreya. Com for a detailed back story and more photos and videos. Please also visit the Facebook page Halvorsen Freya for comments, reviews, more pictures and to view the long list of features. Many specs listed here too.
This is a unique sailing boat, which rarely finds its way on to the market. This really is the only one in the world, with many fans, from the people who saw Merops being built, to the many who saw her docked in her home port, to Jon Amtrup, "wrote the book" on High Latitude Sailing... The new frontier of sailing. She was built to last forever, and way ahead of her time. Think ice breaker Hull, keel cooling, hand turned stainless steel fittings, and more. This is an Australian registered ship (essential for overseas travel) ON85291.

Deck Gear
Mast and Boom winches handmade by the Malcolm Barlow, personally. Merops has three of the six originally made for the original Halvorsen Freya. Malcolm said they were the best winches he ever made. And Magnus agreed. Made from Silverstone 77 alloy. No maintenance required in their lifetime. Remaining winches are modern Arco Production style winches.
Corten Steel - means no rust problems
It is 40% stronger than regular Mild Steel, and lighter, and employs the process of having a thin veneer of oxidization, such as Aluminium... That prevents rust

Ice Breaker (Crusher) Bow design

Custom Geared Anchor Winch with Power installed for adpating to a powered winch

All Stanchions/Granny Bars/Fittings custom made - hand engineered and welded to make them super strong for Antarctic Conditions

2 x Winches on the Mast - hand made by Malcolm Barlow in the 1960s especially for the Halvorsen brothers - and are from the ORIGINAL Freya (the 3 time Sydney to Hobart winner) - made from a Bronze/Aluminium Alloy to last forever. Magnus Halvorsen said they were the strongest winches he had ever seen, and never needed maintaining. These are referred to in the Maritim Museum. Only 6 were ever made. These are 2 of those 6.

Recessed Portholes Midships - can be opened for cross-ventilation

All Deck Hatches are 20mm Perspex, with Stainless Steel Housing.
