"A Laurent Giles (UK) design, this 40ft pilothouse motorsailer is an eye-catching beauty, one of only 7 built of the same construction, beautifully maintained and presented, dubbed by a racing sailor as a true gentleman's cruiser with comfortable, proven offshore Pacific capability (Fiji, and New Zealand). She was built by Dooley Wilson in Tauranga, New Zealand using triple diagonal planked NZ Kauri Pine, cold moulded with a liberal amount of West epoxy ensuring her notable strength. A nice touch is the distinctive Maori carving either side of her bow bestowing safe passage to the sailors of this vessel. She was anti-fouled and the hull waxed in December 2020 and the cabin top brightwork varnished a few weeks ago.
Her teak fit-out below decks shows craftsmanship and timeless elegance, with accommodation for 6 comfortably. The pilothouse roof is extended aft so when the clears are zipped up all round it is the perfect boat for all-weather sailing. The pilothouse house has padded cushions atop the 4 spacious lockers either side, so becomes the sunroom socialising/eating area in favourable weather. Webasto heating with 5 air vents throughout the boat means you are never cold on this boat.
She handles very easily and responsively, and takes big weather in her stride, consistent with her Salar 40 type. There are two helm stations: one centrally in the pilothouse, the second at the rear of the boat under the bimini cover where there is also another seating area and the Weber Baby Q. There is a bow thruster for ease of berthing. The mainsail has Leisurefurl in-boom retrieval and the big genoa has electric winch furling. This winch can also be used for furling the mainsail. There are 3 smaller sails which hank onto the inner forestay. The very colourful MPS has a spinnaker sock for ease of handling.
The regularly serviced engine is a big Ford Lees 110 HP motor consistent with her strong motor-sailer performance when needed. There is good access to the engine room with lighting. The anchor can be deployed remotely from the pilot house or via foot switch at the bow. She was fitted in February 2021 with two new high davits on the transom strong enough to easily carry aloft her fibreglass dinghy plus 3 Hp Yamaha outboard motor. There are two composting toilets so no holding tank restrictions or risk of blockages. Storage space throughout the boat is generous, as is also the headroom of 2 plus metres.
In sum, this is a timeless, classic, strong yacht, rarely available for purchase, well suited to live-aboard and to travel worldwide if the whim takes you, and of a very manageable and comfortable size for Australian passages and anchorages nationwide. You would be justly proud to own her. "
