From the legendary design team of Sparkman and Stephens, the S&S 39 is a highly capable Bluewater cruising yacht.
There is a very good reason why so many sailors have chosen S&S designed yachts to circumnavigate the globe. These classically styled yachts have forged an enviable reputation for their seagoing capabilities. Just ask Jon Sanders, who is currently on his 11th circumnavigation of the globe, sailing his trusty Sparkman and Stephens 39, Perie Banou II.
"Odyssey of Fremantle' has been extremely well set up and maintained as a bluewater cruising yacht. The current owner has spared no expense outfitting the boat, and the Hydrovane self steering ($10k replacement value) is a good example of that. On the transom is a custom made stainless steel arch with mounts for the life raft, outboard engine, gas bottles, radar and solar panels. All essential equipment on a well found cruising yacht.
There is also a very good package of electronics that includes a Raymarine C90W chartplotter on the helm with Raymarine AIS and Raymarine digital radar. At the nav table is a ICOM SSB radio with a P4 modem, ICOM VHF + a handhelf ICOM VHF, a Telstra 4G wireless router and NMEA0183 multiflexer that you can plug your computer into and access the onboard data.
There is also a very impressive inventory of safety equipment that includes, Transocean 4 man life raft, EPIRB, 4x ResQLink PLB's, Series Drogue, jack lines with 3 harnesses and tethers, 2x Crewsaver PFD's with built in harnesses, 7x life jackets, emergency HF and VHF aerials, emergency navigation lights, grab bag, offshore flares, V Sheet, 5x fire extinguishers and an inflatable SOS Danbouy.
The interior has a very simple and functional layout. The main saloon is light and bright with plenty of natural light. The settees both have lee clothes and make excellent sea births while underway.
The galley also a has a simple but functional layout. There is a Tudor 2 burner gas stove with an oven and grill that also features a Sentinel gas detector with a current gas certificate. Under the bench is fridge with a separate freezer and a 12v Frigoboat danfos compressor.
Odyssey of Fremantle has a tall and powerful masthead rig with a comprehensive sail inventory. The mainsail (fully battened with three reefs) was new in 2014. There is a storm jib and a staysail that both hank onto a removable inner forestay. A trysail with it own separate track on the mast. An asymmetrical cruising cute with a sock. The Pro Sail furler was new in 2010 and the standing rigging was last replaced in 2014.
At only $70k Odyssey of Fremantle represents excellent value for money. She has a very impressive inventory of high-quality cruising and safety equipment. And best of all, there is nothing left to spend. She is ready to provision and sail into the sunset tomorrow on the adventures of your dreams.
