The X-Yachts IMX 40 was a sensation on the global yacht racing circuit when released in 2001, winning may prestigious regattas. This IMX 40 racing as "Nips N Tux" finished 3rd overall in the 2003 Sydney to Hobart race along with winning every race in the Telsta Cup series. The boat has a current IRC rating of 1.083.
The IMX 40 is designed with performance in mind. The hull is vacuum-bagged vinylester resin with biaxial and unidirectional E glass incorporating varying thickness Divinicell in the outer skin. The mast and boom are carbon-fiber and built by Nordic Mast. The backstay is adjusted with a line driven system using a Frederickson shaft and drum below deck. X-Yachts claims that the system is quicker and smoother than a hydraulic system and will allow the mainsheet trimmer to put as much as 2800 kgs of load on the backstay. Deck hardware is Harken and the running rigging is Vectran. A carbon spinnaker pole and rigging is also fitted. The helm is a single carbon wheel and the boat has an offshore aluminium wheel for serious racing.
The interior layout is spacious with 3 double cabins, a saloon with good headroom that is a comfortable cruising layout or in race layout capable of sleeping 10 crew. A practical galley and enclosed head/shower are ideal for longer voyages and day sailing.
The yacht has a large sail inventory in various condition, including 3 main sails, several jibs, several spinnakers, storm sails, Code zero and asymmetric spinnaker. Due to unforeseen circumstances the boat has not been sailed for 10 years but still presents very well and is ready for a new owner to bring it back to it's former glory to race or cruise.
