2006 Caribbean 26 Sports Fisherman with 2016 Volvo Penta D4-300. Currently stored at Soldiers Point Marina and can access soldiers point boat ramp ~300m drive.
Pocket game fishing boat, family cruising boat and even skiing boat with the power and economy of the diesel D4. These boats are renowned for their heavy construction and fantastic ride offshore. This vessel has been re-fitted with a 2016 Volvo D4,300hp motor running through a DPH contra-rotating propeller system.
The engine is supercharged for holeshot performance and turbocharged as well (supercharger disconnects above certain RPM). The engine easily halves the fuel economy of the existing 4.3L Mercury MPI motors providing the following rough fuel burn from the 500L tank;
6 knots ~ 3-4LPH
22 knots ~ 33 LPH
26 knots ~ 38 LPH
34 knot top speed ~ 50 LPH
The boat has 2 props that will come with it. The G6 is a taller prop, slower out of the hole but 34-35 knot top speed. The G4 is a shorter prop with a 32 knot top speed but better holeshot and more versitile for family outings / skiing. Engine has ~418 hours at time of publishing. The engine comes with trim assist so the leg trims automatically based on load / speed. Additionally, it has cruise control where you can 'beep' the engine up or down in 50 RPM incriments which can be very handy for skiing or offshore when adjusting the throttle in rough sea conditions. Push button start from up and down stairs with digital displays.
The boat itself is equipped with dual steering controls, electric windlass, manual toilet with holding tank, sink, spirit burner, deck wash, marine radios and full flybridge and lower covers. Fishfinder / Sounder is a SIMRAD NSS 9 Evo 2. It has the wifi attachment to connect smartphones and tablets as required. Head unit fitted upstairs. V-berth up front is generously proportioned with full cushions.
The boat sits on a 4.5T easytow tri-axle trailer and so has never been anti-fouled or stored in the water long term.
Conversion was very professionally done (see photos). These boats usually let any deck water to run into the bilge. In the conversion process, the engine bay wall was built up to accommodate 'wet wells' which pump overboard. This offers the engine better protection from corrosion. Engine mounts were fibreglassed with aluminium to allow engine bolts better purchase and greater security.
