The Bertram 25 really needs no introduction in the Australian market with various layouts having been available in Australia for a good few decades. Many are now being revamped and given another lease on life rather than being condemned to the scrap heap.

This little Rotto gem has had a transformation and is looking all the better for it. The old stern drive is long gone and has been replaced with a Mercury 225 Hp Optimax on an extended GRP transom swim platform. A great addition to the usefulness of the boat with less overall maintenance now required thanks to no longer having the stern drive fitted. The engine is currently showing sub 700 hours and seems to be running like clockwork in our run out of the pen for some images.

The old overhead canopies are all gone and she now sports an almost full length custom barwork canopy with canvas, clears and internal solid sections. Strong and robust with all the overhead protection a weekend at the islands might need. Complete with rod racks, courtesy lighting and additional storage for all those important onboard items. Built to handle the tender on the roof or a few paddle boards and linked to the boat by quality clears, 1/4 covers and a storm cover for nigh time use. The storm cover is a bit tired but has life in it still.

Making the most of the open plan layout there is a basic Galley along the starboard side with sink, make shift table and recessed area under the helm seat for a camp cooker. Its not fancy but will have you cooking a feed of Rotto crays in no time and relaxing on the port side lounge with a cray sandwich an cold beer. It does not get any better.

Current being kept as a queen berth the forward V-Berth could break down to two singles for father and son weekend away making the Jabsco toilet a little more accessible. Trimmed in the colours of the era it takes me back to a much younger day when things seemed easier and the Herring would jump into the bucket at Geordie bay. Extra berthing could be available by throwing a swag on the back deck.

The Bertram hull is a reliable boat on water with a long tradition here in WA and would make a great entry into that Rotto Life for a young family or couple of mates looking to take that next step in their boating story.
