Description: Swinfield 28ft Timber Motor Sailor
SUPERBLY CONSTRUCTED AND MAINTAINED IN FIRST CLASS ORDER, this lovley timber classic style vessel has had three custodians only, all whom have maintained Lillias to a high standard.
Designed by RAN Naval architect Arthur Swinfield for use by the South Seas Island Commission as fishing vessels, the original owner builder saw these in operation and decided to build his own.
Using his skills as a master woodworker, construction was commenced in 1981 and Lillias ultimately launched in Sept 1986.
Using Tasmanian timbers in the construction, the hull is Celery Top pine splined at build, keel is swamp gum with a steel slipper and decks are laid celery over marine ply producing a stunning effect visually while providing a strong sea-worthy vessel suitable for serious coastal cruising.
The design offers comfortable accomodation with spacious saloon area around the folding dinette table which seats six, easy access from the very user friendly galley area complete with 2 burner stainless steel metho stove, stainless sink with hand pump, double compartment fridge and carries 200 ltrs of water.
A working navigation table is opposite with cleverly fitted drawers for charts and other storage.
Accomodation provides a large double berth, and three singles utilising the settees as berths, and again we must emphasise the quality of the fitout and in particular the use of the beautiful timbers through out.
The boat is well powered by a Yanmar 2QM 20hp 2 cylinder deisel with only 1300 hours use providing easy and very economical cruising, 2 ltrs per hour, at 6 to 7 knots with a top speed of 8 knots. Total fuel carried is 100 litres providing an excellent cruising range
Electronics include full 12 volt system, basic electronics and safety equipment for local cruising.
The forepeak area is principally designed for seamanlike gear storage and also includes the manual toilet with hand basin, with a nice timber bench feature also giving privacy from the accomodation areas.
A manual anchor winch is fitted plus basic crockery, cutlery and other utensils making this very much a step aboard and just enjoy the pleasure that can be derived from this beautiful timber vessel.
NOTE: the standing rigging was all replaced in early 2020, the owner then decided to use the vesel principally as a motor boat on the Tamar River so all the spars, standing and running rigging plus sails, winches etc are in storage at his residence. Re-rigging will be required to sail Lillias again but all the necessary items are stored and ready to fit.
