Description: Morgan 60
Lone Wolf
Launched in January 2025, this attractive Morgan 60 will delight and reward adventurous, technical, and "pure" sailors.
With hull and decks strongly built in vacuum-bagged double-bias epoxy e-glass and Kevlar (designed under guidance from High Modulus of Team NZ and Volvo 60 fame), she features a retractable canting keel, foam-filled double-skin bottom sides, redundancy of all critical boat and navigation systems, a lowerable mast, full beachability, a well-insulated interior, and light weight requiring a manageable sail area.
Lone Wolf is designed and equipped as a safe, fast passage-making, adaptable expedition boat.
An extraordinary story of experience, innovation, and attention to detail sits behind this magnificent vessel.
With her design commenced in the mid-1980s, a "proof of concept" 27ft scale model was first constructed, proving to be entirely successful. The designer and builder, local Nelson surgeon and experienced sailor Harvey Morgan, had previously built the first NZ foam-sandwich GRP vessel in the early 1970s -- the 45ft Ngatahi, which is still being sailed in New Caledonia.
Lone Wolf's finishing work stagnated in later years due to Harvey's health issues, and she was sold "out of the shed" in 2024 upon his death. Her current owner has invested considerably in launching, rigging, and completing her to a high standard. Final commissioning and sea trials are pending; however, he has now received an unfavourable diagnosis and seeks market interest.
Additional features include: surveyed for NZ ship registration (NZ3388); 4 cabins (3 x single, 1 x double); gimballed twin ovens with burners (white spirit and gas); saloon cabin heater; full electronics and navigation suite (including redundant systems); new Quantum headsails; commercial-duty Mitsubishi diesel (< 5 hrs) with 220A alternator; 650Ahr house batteries; 450W wind generator; 200W solar; extensive integrated multiple tankage; full safety gear requirements (in date); aft boarding platform.
Lone Wolf is currently berthed in Nelson Marina, with her berth lease transferable upon her sale.
