What does GRT stand for....
Formosa GRT
Guts. Resilience. Toughness.
"It's a GRT little boat"
The GRTs are different to any other production boat in that size - you'd need to get a custom or a kit boat built to get anything like it in the same size.
The shell of the boat (bottom, sides, transom) is all 4mm plate. Bottoms are 5083 high tensile aluminium. Nothing thinner than 3mm used on the internals. This just makes it a far more robust boat than anything in pressed aluminium from 1.6-4mm.
The two steps/benches at the transom and shoulders of the boat lock everything in laterally and four plate girders/stringers run the length of the boat below the floor. There are no top hat extrusion ribs like in a pressed boat. Top decks are all fully welded, no stitching. Bottom sheets are welded both inside and out. It's all stronger build technique and material. Piece of mind - especially in areas where the chance of bumping into timber and rock bars is higher.
Being built from plate sheet allows for two features in the hull bottom - a constant deadrise right through to the transom and a big negatively angled reverse chine. Maintaining the V through to the transom keeps that quality of ride in all conditions.
