The senator impresses particularly at an angle to wind and waves - it just does not have the hint of a broach in it. And it is pretty soft landing. That Vagabond you sold me in 1999 was very soft, but not as good downhill as the senator. The senator also works well as a family boat with useable comfortable spaces. And the 300 Yamaha is surprisingly economical - not much more fuel than our previous 3 litre 150 merc 4 stroke on a 6.4 fibreglass hull, even though we are going faster.

The Senator will do 23kn into any sea, and 27 kn in average water, and low 30s if it is a good day. It will do 43kn but it is starting to feel a bit "light". Certainly the 225 or 250 same block Yamaha is enough power.

Coming downwind and swell it does not have to climb up onto a swell, Nor does it surf down the wave. I have never experienced that before except in a 60 foot cray boat doing only 17kn, but we are doing 23 to 27 kn all the time. Our old boat, with 22 degrees deadrise would be down to 17 to 20 kn in like conditions. With the senator you don't have to steer even at 45 degrees to the SW wind of 15 to 20kn coming home.

Also, we put trim tabs on it, but really it does not need them. It does not lean much - just move the esky a foot to one side of centre if it is a big cross wind or an extra person on one side.

So all up we are Senator fans. NZ relatives all buy senator after having Stabi.
