Stunning Chris Craft Corsair 28 Heritage Edition - the perfect Sydney Harbour day boat with classic lines, teak detailing and serious performance from twin Volvo 5.7Gi V8s. Professionally maintained with no expense spared, dry stored out of the water for around eight months each year over winter and kept on a serviced mooring for the summer season.
Powered by twin Volvo Penta 5.7Gi 300 hp petrol V8s with Volvo sterndrives. Engine hours read Port 550.7 hrs and Starboard 549.1 hrs. This vessel is an absolute dream to drive, performing like a race car on the water - the deep-V hull feels planted and responsive, and she will comfortably hit 40 knots.
In 2023 a major mechanical and electronics refit was carried out at a cost of approximately $80,000. The engines were stripped back to long blocks, fully degreased, rust treated and repainted. New manifolds and risers were fitted, oil sumps replaced, new transom assembly installed and the sterndrives were serviced, re-installed and aligned before comprehensive test running. At the same time a modern Garmin colour GPSMAP touchscreen chartplotter with depth sounder was flush-mounted at the helm and a Fusion glass-front Bluetooth stereo system with cockpit speakers was installed, bringing the boat up to date electronically.
In 2024 all cockpit seat cushions were re-trimmed and a full custom topside cover was made for the boat. Annual slipping, antifoul and engine servicing were completed and the house battery was replaced.
In 2025 further upholstery upgrades were undertaken, including a new aft backrest/sunpad and a custom forward sun bed. A major service was completed on both legs, stripping them back and replacing all seals. The starboard engine received a new raw-water pump, hoses and belt, and new exhaust sensors were fitted to both engines. Most recently the boat has been professionally polished and detailed, including full teak treatment, together with the annual PropSpeed application to the running gear and fresh antifoul.
In total, the documented capital spend on mechanical, electronic and upholstery upgrades over the last three years is in the order of $90,000-$100,000, on top of regular annual slipping, antifoul, servicing, detailing and polishing and it shows.
Chris-Craft are one of the most respected names in classic powerboats, renowned for their deep-V hulls, solid construction and timeless lines - they simply don't build production boats like this anymore, and it really shows in the way this Corsair looks and drives.
The layout is classic Corsair 28 Heritage Edition - teak foredeck, teak cockpit and swim platform, U-shaped cockpit seating with table, removable sunbed inserts, aft sunpad and large bimini on stainless frame that provides shade to the whole cockpit. Below, the forward cabin offers a vee-berth double, enclosed electric head with holding tank, and storage, making it ideal for overnighters or a quick escape from the sun. Systems include pressurised fresh water, electric toilet and holding tank. There is a known fault with the toilet macerator and the trim tab hydraulic pump; new replacement units have been ordered and will be supplied for fitting so the new owner can enjoy reliable operation going forward.
Electronics and systems include the Garmin GPSMAP chartplotter/depth sounder, upgraded Fusion Bluetooth stereo, electic anchor windlass, bilge pumps, underwater lights, navigation and deck lights, trim tabs as well as shore power and battery charger.
The boat is offered with a transferable mooring at Rose Bay Marina with tender service, making it a genuinely turn-key package and an ideal base for Sydney Harbour. With its heritage styling, serious mechanical spend in recent years and ongoing professional care, this Corsair 28 represents a rare opportunity to step straight into a fully sorted, premium day boat and enjoy an amazing summer on the water ahead.
