Koorine was built buy W Holmes in 1936 for Sir Clifton Love ( Uncle Toby's Oats) founder, she is constructed of NZ Kauri Pine one and three quarters inch thick carvel built. Koorine served in world war two as HMAS Koorine Q582, and also in the US Army Small ships... ( The Rag Tag Fleet ) which was set up by General MacArthur Boat number S-423, WT-97 and the Navy Auxiliary Patrol.. NAP no 13.
HMAS Koorine had two machine guns, one mounted fore and aft, plus 10 depth chargers on her stern. She was extensively refitted in the early 1970 s in Williamstown. At that stage she was lengthened about two feet in the bow, and had her deck raised at the bow also. A new fly bridge was built giving her a new more modern look, two new Bowman Ford diesels were also fitted.
Her interior was changed from a bunk configuration that was used when she was ferrying the wounded back from New Guinea, to a luxury state room with ensuite and hip bath aft. The saloon was also modified for comfort with the forward cabin spruced up to comfortably accommodate extra crew. Last year Koorine had over $100,000.00 spent on a mechanical refit, including new SS shafts and all new glands and bearings, engines where serviced with new filters and heat exchangers, numerous other necessary things like batteries and safety gear for her trip from Sydney to Franklin in Tasmania, which she completed in seven days with out any problems.
Since then she has undergone a lovely interior refit. Koorine is only one of three surviving boats that served in the US Army Small Ships ( The Rag Tag Fleet ) one is a wreck, the other was converted to a sailing boat. We have spent much more than we are asking, a labour of love.
An extensive folder of original war documents and history will go with the vessel.
We are in our mid seventies and have completed our mission which was to save this iconic historical vessel, we wish to pass her on to new owners with historical interest. EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST for a fare price.
