Description: Custom Long range, ballasted epoxy constructed
TRAWLER YACHT in every sense of the word. 48 ft LOA x 14 ft 8 inch beam x 6 ft draft [good numbers]. Argos was launched in 2003 and has already completed a circumnavigation of the globe in circa 2012. The main engine is a YANMAR 12 LITRE SLOW REVING SHIPS ENGINE which has now done 8800 hours.
Engine and gearbox weight = two ton. Full service history plus documentation and maintenance records are on board.
Argos is berthed in KETTERING Tasmania

A new Nanni 38 HP N 4 wing motor was fitted in 2020 with a shaft drive and slip stream folding propellor. This achieves 6 knots @ 2500 rpm. This engine is also used for house and cranking battery charging.

Professionally was built and designed in Toronto NSW by Phil Heaney / Launched in 2003.

Argos is a full walk-around and shade vessel with port and starboard doors.

Fuel filtration and fuel transfer manifold system from tank to tank as per ships protocols [system as new].
3 to 1 reduction on main engine through Yanmar hydraulic gearbox.
38 inch 4 blade prop driving through a 2.5 inch stainless shaft and conventional stuffing box [gland].
4000 litres of fuel, with fuel tanks recently opened and inspected.
1000 litres of water in 2 x stainless tanks.
Engine driven bilge pumping and anchor wash down.
Argos is designed and built to survey for the circumnavigation but is not in commercial survey now.

Kauri planking [Plank on Plank method fore and aft, over 60 x 60 hardwood epoxy laminated frames @ 600 centres / hull thickness totals 50 mil [massive construction, built to last [epoxy glued not caulked and seamed]. This is a modern, clever, long lasting and strong method of building a timber boat without the traditional hull maintenance. The Hull is copper and bronze fastened.
Laid beech decking over marine ply [very thick and select planking not worn down and thin like some imported vessels. [No leaks]

Muir 3000 Thor 24 volt electric anchor winch [recently stripped and rebuilt] with 150 metres of 1/2 inch chain. 40 KG Excel anchor plus fisherman anchor. This really is commercial holding gear - as you would expect on a vessel fitted up to do a circumnavigation.

Trawler arms and fish for stabilising whilst under way. These have been rebuilt and redesigned to reduce fuel burn and the gear improved for easy deployment and retrieval. This is the best manufactured system for arms I have ever come across!
When these recent modifications were done the entire vessel was re-rigged in stainless and a new headsail was fitted at the same time, [Harken furler].

Argos is a true 8 knot vessel and will sit at 8.5 knots @ 1450 RPM at 12 to 13 litres per hour. Much less if you are conserving fuel to cross an ocean. The range is 3000 NM at between 7 to 8 knots depending on conditions. At 1200 RPM the cruise speed is 7 knots burning 9 litres per hour. Top speed 9.5 knots.

Side power S E 120 /150- 24 volt Bow Thruster fitted in 2017.
Two x diesel heaters.
Solid timber shipwrights fit out

The credentials of the current owner speak for themselves. He is a naval architect, fitter and turner, marine ships surveyor, ships engineer, and also a damn good boat builder who has spent much of his time at sea on commercial ships.

He takes pride in his profession, and it shows in the maintenance and the professional upgrades in this vessel.

Add to the above, the dedication and craftsmanship of Phil Heaney [the builder and designer] who had the skill to successfully take the boat around the globe.
Now add all of the above together and you have a practical, proven, capable, beautiful, rare work of art. Now it just needs your adventurous spirit.

Argos is being sold with a current full out-of-water survey by respected Tasmanian shipwright Douglass Watson.

This vessel will be well suited to a professional mariner, or a yachtsman who is considering the move away from sailing, for the comfort of an ocean going long distance motor boat.
