Alexander Marine Australia are pleased to present the 2002/2018 Kanter Marine 70 Raised Pilothouse 'Mad Macs' to the market as worldwide central agents.
Constructed in Canada, 'Mad Macs' is a robust and capable Kanter 70 aluminium raised pilothouse long-range motor yacht, purpose-built for serious offshore cruising and extended liveaboard comfort. Designed by renowned naval architect Chuck Paine and built in 2002, she underwent a comprehensive refit in 2017 and 2018, which included the extension of her fishing cockpit and extensive paintwork, and has since logged more than 32,000 ocean miles. Combining the inherent strength and durability of aluminium construction with the proven design characteristics of a raised pilothouse long-range motor yacht, 'Mad Macs' offers an impressive platform for extended passagemaking, coastal exploration or full-time living aboard. She has been meticulously maintained, with further paintwork in 2026, and presents in excellent condition. A recent out-of-water survey confirms her structural integrity and all systems reported to be in sound working order.
Boarding from the swim platform, 'Mad Macs' immediately reveals her practical offshore and fishing focus, having successfully caught marlin during her time on the water. A purpose-designed swim ladder allows for easy boarding while wearing fins, while a custom bait board provides a dedicated workspace for fishing and diving activities. The fishing cockpit incorporates a substantial fishing and dive locker, cleverly vented from the engine room to promote airflow and help keep wetsuits dry. A Bauer Capitano dive compressor is housed within the lazarette, allowing air tanks to be filled onboard. Salt and fresh water shower facilities provide the flexibility to clean down fish or rinse off with fresh water after a dive, while a freshwater rinse locker to starboard offers another convenient facility for washing down. Opposite, the fish bin to port provides dedicated storage for the day's catch.
Moving forward into the aft deck, Aquadeck flooring provides a durable and practical surface underfoot. Viper outriggers further enhance the vessel's fishing capabilities, while forward-facing bench seating surrounds a hi/lo foldable table and leaves room for additional loose deck chairs when entertaining. Cockpit camper covers, together with the substantial hardtop overhang, provide excellent protection from the elements and allow the aft deck to remain a comfortable outdoor living space in varying weather conditions.
From the aft deck, the interior opens into a warm and inviting saloon finished throughout in beautifully varnished Canadian cherry satin timber. A generous lounge to starboard faces the LG 48" TV, while additional seating to port provides a comfortable arrangement for relaxing and entertaining. Carpeted flooring complements the timber interior, creating a refined yet homely atmosphere. Dometic chilled water system air conditioning provides efficient climate control throughout, while Starlink satellite internet with a marine antenna ensures connectivity while cruising.
Moving forward, the U-shaped galley is positioned up to port on the raised pilothouse level, keeping food preparation integrated with the main living areas. The galley is equipped with a Mitsubishi 492L upright refrigerator, Vitrifrigo 144L drawer freezers, Smeg gas cooktop and oven, Sharp microwave and Monogram trash compactor, complemented by practical storage and working space. Opposite, a dedicated coffee station provides a convenient space for preparing refreshments while underway or entertaining guests. Forward of the galley, is the U-shaped dining area to port, which creates a comfortable setting for meals and relaxed gatherings. Additional refrigeration and freezer capacity is provided in the saloon with an Isotherm 130L fridge and Isotherm 90L freezer.
The raised pilothouse provides 'Mad Macs' with an elevated command position and excellent visibility. The centreline helm seat places the skipper directly behind an extensive suite of navigation and vessel management equipment, including two Simrad 16" displays, a Simrad 12" MFD, a Garmin 12" MFD, Furuno Open Array radar, Garmin radar, Simrad and Garmin sounders, Simrad autopilot, Amtrak AIS, Furuno NavNet and Icom VHF hardware. Wesmar hydraulic bow and stern thrusters provide confident manoeuvrability, complemented by Wesmar fin stabilisers while underway and flopper stoppers while at rest for enhanced comfort underway and at anchor. A Wireless Yacht Controller docking remote provides additional manoeuvring capability. A pilothouse door to starboard provides convenient access to the side deck.
Stepping down to the accommodation level to starboard of the helm, 'Mad Macs' offers a generous two-cabin layout designed around comfortable extended cruising. The full-beam midship master cabin features a queen-sized berth and two private ensuites connected by an adjoining shower, creating an impressive level of privacy and convenience for the owners. Forward, the VIP cabin provides a queen-sized berth and private ensuite, offering comfortable accommodation for guests. Laundry facilities are also located on this level with an LG washing machine and separate dryer, adding practical convenience for longer periods aboard.
Access to the flybridge is provided via the aft deck ladder or directly from the raised pilothouse, leading to an expansive upper deck designed for both cruising and entertaining. A clever raised lip around the perimeter of the upper deck is designed to capture rainwater and direct it into the vessel's tanks, making practical use of available rainfall while cruising. Three-sided flybridge clears provide additional protection from wind and weather, while the centreline helm seat is supported by a 12" and 9" Simrad MFD, Raymarine autopilot, Raymarine Tridata repeater, two Garmin depth, speed and wind displays and an Icom VHF. To port, a generous U-shaped settee surrounds a table, providing an inviting outdoor living area with excellent elevated views.
Stepping down, the boat deck provides additional utility space. A Weber gas BBQ makes outdoor cooking convenient, while the Vitrifrigo 133L fridge provides substantial additional cold storage for extended cruising and entertaining. The boat deck houses the AB 4.57m 15 ALX Centre Console RIB powered by a Yamaha 60hp outboard, launched via an ADC 1000kg hydraulic davit and a MarQuipt 500kg hydraulic davit.
Returning to the aft deck, the port and starboard Aquadeck-laid side decks provide secure access towards the bow, incorporating a Portuguese bridge and leading forward to the substantial foredeck, arranged for both practical anchoring and relaxation. A foredeck shade awning provides protection from the sun, creating another comfortable outdoor area for enjoying the surroundings. Ground tackle is handled by a substantial 80kg/176lb steel Sarca anchor, deployed via a Maxwell windlass with 100m of 13mm stainless steel chain. A spare Fortress FX125 anchor with 180m of galvanised chain provides additional anchoring capability if required.
The engine room is accessed from either the aft deck sole or walk-in access from the master cabin and provides a large and spacious machinery area with excellent room for inspection, maintenance and servicing. At the heart of the vessel is a single Lugger 6125 TA diesel engine producing 325hp, supported by an Onan 17.5KW and Northern Lights 10KW generator. A Horizon Seafari 140LPH watermaker ensures a reliable supply of fresh water for extended time aboard, while Victron 800Ah lithium batteries, multiple inverters and battery chargers form a comprehensive onboard electrical system. A 130 PSI air compressor further adds to the vessel's extensive cruising and diving capabilities.
'Mad Macs' represents a rare opportunity to acquire a proven Kanter aluminium raised pilothouse long-range motor yacht with an exceptional offshore pedigree and a comprehensive refit behind her. Her robust construction, thoughtfully designed raised pilothouse and Portuguese bridge layout, generous accommodation and living spaces, and easy owner-operated nature provide the capability and independence required for serious ocean cruising while retaining the comfort and practicality expected of a true long-range motor yacht. 'Mad Macs' presents as a proven and meticulously maintained vessel, ready for her next chapter.
