Alexander Marine are pleased to present the 2012 Ocean Alexander 78 'Calypso' to the market as worldwide central agents.
'Calypso' is a rare opportunity to own a constantly upgraded and captain-maintained 2012 Ocean Alexander 78. As the only Ocean Alexander 78 cruising Australian waters, she has benefitted from significant and constant upgrades. Representing the pinnacle of quality engineering, luxury, and Ocean Alexander's world-class craftsmanship, she is designed to handle blue water adventures with ease. Her Ed Monk Jnr naval architecture delivers a dry, soft ride with exceptional performance, and she remains whisper-quiet at anchor. Having already cruised Tasmania and North Queensland, she is well-suited to Australia's challenging conditions and boasts redundancies for remote area cruising.
Access to 'Calypso' is via dual teak-laid steps from the extended hi/lo swim platform, effectively making her 83 feet in length overall. A dedicated boarding ladder, which stows conveniently onboard, provides additional accessibility. The hi/lo platform can accommodate the tender for short passages, while for longer ocean crossings, the tender is stowed on the boat deck. A centerline watertight door leads directly to the crew cabin and engine room from the swim platform, with a secondary access point down to the crew and engine room available from the cockpit when underway.
The teak-laid cockpit offers ample protection from the elements, thanks to the boat deck overhang and a privacy mesh screen. An aft fixed settee with upholstered cushions surrounds an upgraded stone table with space for additional loose seating, providing the perfect setting for alfresco dining. To starboard, you'll find a sink along with the previously mentioned access to the crew quarters. Stainless steel automatic doors lead from the cockpit into the saloon.
The saloon features signature Ocean Alexander craftsmanship and recently refreshed soft furnishings and carpet. Her oversized L-shaped sofa to starboard makes for a relaxing environment in which to watch some TV on the hi/lo 50" Samsung Frame TV or read a book. Her closed bulkhead design is well suited to long passages as "off-watch" guests and crew relaxing in the saloon are well separated from the captain should he or she be taking advantage of the climate-controlled lower helm station. Immediately opposite the saloon sofa, on the port side as you move forward, is the day head.
Once forward of the saloon, the galley and pilothouse area provide a functional yet elegant space. The starboard-positioned galley is an entertainer's delight, featuring supersized appliances including a Westinghouse french upright door fridge/freezer, Bosch induction cooktop, Jenn-Air oven, Jenn-Air microwave, Fisher & Paykel dishwasher and Whirlpool trash compactor. The pilothouse offers an all-weather, centerline helm station equipped with Furuno navigation equipment, ensuring the captain has everything they need at their fingertips. A settee and table to port provide a cozy spot to enjoy snacks and keep the captain company while underway. Port and starboard pilothouse doors lead to the wide walk-around teak-laid side decks, ensuring ease of access around the vessel. Comfort is guaranteed with ABT-TRAC Hydraulic Zero Speed Fin Stabilisers and Humphree Interceptors.
Access to the lower deck guest accommodation is via a starboard-side staircase from the helm. Below deck, three spacious guest cabins await. The midship master cabin is a luxurious retreat, featuring an island king bed and twin ensuites with a central shower and a 49" Samsung Smart TV. To port, a guest cabin offers side-by-side single bunks, a private ensuite and a 24" TV, while the forward VIP cabin boasts an island queen bed, its own ensuite and a 33" Samsung TV.
Crew accommodations are located aft under the cockpit sole. The crew cabin features over-and-under bunks, a separate bathroom that doubles as a day head, and a kitchenette including a sink, U-Line fridge/ice maker and microwave, providing practical and comfortable quarters.
The flybridge is a true highlight, accessed from either an internal staircase from the pilothouse or the cockpit staircase. This spacious, teak-laid area is designed for entertaining, with stunning views from the helm station. A GRP hardtop with three-sided clears offers excellent protection from the elements. An expansive bar with seating to starboard and stools creates a lively social hub including an electric BBQ and U-Line fridge/ice maker. When the tender is deployed using the Nautical Structures 1,750kg davit or stowed down on the hi/lo platform, the boat deck transforms into a spacious sun lounging area. The removable tender cradles maximize the space for relaxation and enjoying the surroundings.
Like all Ocean Alexander, her machinery space is impressive. Twin Caterpillar C18's are the perfect power plant for this vessel offering impressive sprint speeds up to 21 knots when required. In terms of power generation 'Calypso' is equipment with twin Kohler 32 KW generators to take care of the onboard power requirements, with auto start functionality for seamless power management. For long-range cruising, she naturally features a washing and dryer machines and a Blue Water Legend water maker. She is equipped with a wireless Yacht Controller docking remote, and hydraulic bow and stern thrusters, for ease of docking. A full suite of lithium batteries were installed offering amazing performance benefits over traditional lead-acid systems. She is equipped with shore power conversion equipment that permits plugging into any voltage anywhere in the world should her next owner wish to continue worldwide cruising. 'Calypso' is maintained to a high standard and is complete with a detailed service history.
'Calypso' has enjoyed a range of updates in recent years, including a comprehensive soft furnishings refresh that complements her classic design. Upon inspection, her impressive volume and luxurious finishes become evident. She is presented in turn-key condition, ready for her next adventure on the water, having just completed her annual out of water maintenance!
