Pachoud 18M 18m 'Turquoise'

Alexander Marine Australia & New Zealand global yacht acquisitions & superyachts division are pleased to present the 2017 Pachoud Yachts 18m 'Turquoise'.

Built in Tauranga, New Zealand by Pachoud Yachts - a yard that has specialised in high-performance epoxy composite catamarans since 1987 - 'Turquoise' belongs to a small series of 18-metre foil-assisted power catamarans drawn in collaboration with Roger Hill. The concept is a simple one, and rarely achieved: a yacht that will cross open water at 30 knots, then settle at anchor as a four-cabin home. Of particular note to local buyers, she is a 240V / 50Hz build, specified from new for the New Zealand and Australian market. The vessel is currently laying in Florida, USA and can be used locally before coming home.

From the moment you step aboard, 'Turquoise' makes the case for two hulls. The hydraulic swim platform lowers to the water for swimming and for launching the tender, which lives out of sight in a garage beneath the aft deck and is handled by an Atlas davit. A few steps up, the teak cockpit runs the full 6.3 metres of her beam - level, wide and sheltered by the hardtop, with a dining table and settee, a day head close at hand, and deck hatches giving direct access to each engine room and a dedicated tool room.

The galley sits aft of the saloon, exactly where it earns its keep. With the saloon doors open, its long white benchtop becomes a servery to the cockpit table and bar, while Bosch cooking appliances, drawer refrigeration and a Fisher & Paykel dish drawer are all within a step of each other. Meals move outside or inside without anyone leaving the conversation.

Stepping into the saloon, the same floor level carries forward to a deep lounge of white sofas arranged around a timber coffee table. Warm joinery, wraparound glazing and a run of overhead skylights give the space the feel of a beach house rather than a boat - bright, relaxed and open to the horizon on every side.

Forward and to starboard, the helm is part of the room rather than apart from it. Twin helm seats face a console built around two Garmin 8422 displays, with open array radar, sonar, autopilot and a FLIR night-vision camera for arrivals after dark. Sightlines are clear in every direction, and a bow thruster takes the tension out of berthing a boat of this beam.

Below, 'Turquoise' accommodates eight guests in four staterooms. The master lies forward across the bridge deck, with a centreline bed, generous storage and its own ensuite. The port hull holds a double stateroom with a private ensuite, while two twin cabins share a bathroom in the starboard hull -- an arrangement that suits children, friends or a second couple equally well. Six air-conditioning units, a full laundry with two washers and dryers, and a watermaker make extended time away from the dock entirely comfortable. On the foredeck, broad sunpads offer a quiet place to sit when the anchor is down.

Her engineering is the reason she exists. Twin MTU 8V 2000 M94 diesels of 1,250hp each drive through ZF gearboxes to conventional shafts, and a fixed foil between the hulls lifts her at speed and reduces drag. The result is a 30-knot cruise and a maximum of around 40 knots, with 9,000 litres of fuel giving a listed range of 900 nautical miles at cruising speed and 1,500 nautical miles at ten knots. An 18kW Kohler generator, lithium house batteries and fuel polishing complete a sensible, well-ordered installation. Her 240V / 50Hz electrical system matches the shore power found in every marina in Australia and New Zealand, so her appliances, air-conditioning and onboard systems arrive ready to plug in - no transformers and no conversion work.

What distinguishes 'Turquoise' is how completely she answers our part of the world: New Zealand-built, wired to our standard, fast enough to shrink long coastlines, and shallow and stable enough to enjoy what lies at the end of them. With 2,000 hours on each engine and a history of professional maintenance, she is ready for her next owner.
