The Riviera 60 is a formidable beast without too many rivals here in Australia. With an enclosed airconditioned wheelhouse, massive fuel capacity and four cabins, they were well designed with long range cruising in mind. Despite their size, I have always found this model to be very easy to handle.

Fitted with three helm stations plus a wireless Docking Master remote control, bow and stern thrusters, she is simple to dock even in the tightest of spaces.

'Big Bud' is hull #13, a 2006 model launched new into NSW then purchased by her current owner and freighted to WA.

She is a seemingly standard boat until you delve a little deeper. The 60 in my opinion is a well balanced boat, her 63ft overall length easily carries off the enclosed flybridge which so often looks top heavy on smaller boats. Reviews on the 60 also mention how well she cruises without sticking her nose in the air like so many of her competitors. I concur - Big Bud quietly and effortlessly sneaks onto the plane without the usual climb.

Her engine room is very clean with plenty of room, even with the inclusion of a backup Onan genset there is still room to get around the Caterpillar C18's, . There is a Karcher high pressure cleaner plumbed to the cockpit and anchor locker, both airconditioning and eutectic fridge compressors, Seafari HRO watermaker and an enormous 80L Rheem electric storage hot water system.

I'm a little envious of her galley - located forward of the saloon she is larger than mine at home and features a recently refurbished three door below bench eutectic refrigeration system, Corian benchtops, ceramic cooktop, Insinkerator, garbage compactor and an amazing amount of below and above counter storage. The galley floor is an easy clean synthetic timber look Amtico. Being on the same level, the cook can be very much a part of the conversation with those dining or lounging in the saloon and also enjoy the panoramic views. A popup digital TV, Bose surround sound stereo and one touch electric curtains top off her features nicely. I could easily live on 'Big Bud'!

Her teak laid rear deck is stunning. The swimboard is accessed via a transom door and features stainless steel safety rails. The bimini shade and Breezeway wind screens are all quite new and almost totally blanket the cockpit area in shade. This owner must love cooking as both an electric Cookout and gas Galleymate stainless steel BBQ's are included.

Accommodation is all on the lower deck. Hatches provide ample light and ventilation to all cabins and ensuites. The master cabin is to port and includes its own Bose entertainment system with digital TV and Foxtel connection, island queen berth, walk in robe and ensuite. A guest stateroom in the bow incorporates similar features. The single berths in the starboard cabin are adult friendly. This opens into a shared ensuite/day head. Cabin four has just the one single berth but also includes a clothes washer and dryer.

Up on the bow sits a 3.66m AB rigid inflatable with 40HP Suzuki four stroke outboard - perfect for scooting from bay to bay. A Muir windlass supports heavy galvanised chain and a 100kg stainless steel anchor.

A nicely styled ladder takes you to the flybridge. At the top of the stairs there is an outside docking station which is really handy when berthing. The fully enclosed wheelhouse is airconditioned and includes a wetbar with fridge and sink plus stereo and digital TV - a great retreat for the kids when at rest. Two leather Besenzoni bucket seats ensure the captain and master are comfortable while underway. Vision from the helm is 360 degrees and a digital surveillance system enables you to keep and eye n your guests. The Raymarine navigation equipment has recently been upgraded with the latest models including four multi function displays encompassing radar, GPS and sounder modules so she is pretty much ready for that adventure north.
