A very beautiful descendant of the Tasmanian Passage Boat, Mallana 43ft (13.11m) LOD x 12.1ft (3.69m) beam x 4'ft 6" draft was originally built as a racing yacht before serving as commercial vessel, mothership to a school camp, and even conducting rescues from the Bass Strait islands. The vessel so endeared herself in her early life that the daughter of an original owner and another experienced sailor undertook a major restoration, including new laid beech decks and gaff rig in the 1990s and refastening of the topsides in the 2000s. In recent years, Mallana's much benefited from full boat covers, making her annual maintenance hours more comparable to a modern boat. Mallana is powered by a 59hp Volvo MD22 engine designed and built by Perkins in England and the engine appears in good condition. Mallana's internal layout was recreated from historic photos in the 1990s and includes a very large main saloon with 4 berths, seats, a large table and a galley. There is also a fore peak containing a toilet and storage, which could have the original additional 2 berths reinstated.
Mallana is on the Australian Register of Historic Vessels and there is much information and many images available online (google Ketch Mallana). Mallana would be suited to an owner who is willing and able to keep and use her in the southern parts of Australia.
