Alan Payne (1921-1995) was Australia's premier naval architect, famous for designing America's Cup challengers *Gretel* and *Gretel II*. His blue-water designs are legendary for their heavy-duty, heavily rigged, seaworthy characteristics that handle rough conditions beautifully.

This specific 47' 10" (14.58m) hull is a highly specialised, custom steel yawl configuration. The boat features a variable draft centerboard setup drawing just 4.6 feet (1.4m) with the board up, and 8.6 feet (2.6m) with it down. This unique design allows a massive 48-foot ocean-going steel vessel to safely enter shallow coastal anchorages and inland waterways.

Launched in 1980, Timshel has a proven blue-water pedigree, having completed a full global circumnavigation. Due to its shallow centerboard draft, it also travelled extensively through the inland French Canal system before eventually routing back to Queensland, where it is currently based in Bundaberg.
