Alan Payne Tasman SeaBird

A rare opportunity to own a piece of Australian maritime history:

A 1962 Tasman Seabird, purpose built by renowned Sydney to Hobart skipper, Jim Mclean - father of legendary sailor Kay Cottee, the first woman to complete a solo nonstop circumnavigation of the globe.

Crafted from Honduran Mahogany below the waterline and White Beech above this 37-foot yacht boasts timeless lines, graceful counter stern and a full keel, embodying the elegance of a bygone era.

Originally commissioned to compete in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, she proudly sailed in the 1963,1964 and 1967 races as well as the 1967 Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race.

Since acquiring her in January 2021, my wife and I have spent the past four years lovingly restoring this vessel. She was last slipped in July 2024.

Though not yet to concours standard, she is structurally sound, seaworthy and ready to sail - offering her next custodian a chance to continue her legacy or simply enjoy this classic ocean cruiser.
