The design brief for the Oceanis 351 was to create a yacht with a spacious and luxurious interior, and a good turn of speed to outperform the other production cruisers on the market at the time.
Renowned naval architect Jean Berret excelled on both fronts and the Oceanis 351 quickly became a huge success story for Beneteau yachts. At the time, the design featured a number of innovative design aspects, such as a wing keel, a shallow bilge, slippery underwater sections and a lengthy waterline. The design was well received by sailors worldwide who appreciated the performance benefits and the high level of comfort the 351 delivered.
Step down below and it's hard not to be wowed by the charm of the 351's interior. The abundance of rich warm timber, natural light and quality joinery combine to give the interior a traditional yet modern contemporary feel. The layout is spacious and very thoughtfully designed, to be both practical and comfortable as a liveaboard cruising yacht. This was indeed a golden era for interior boat design and very little has changed since.
The saloon has a lovely open plan with a linear galley and nav table on the port side, and a spacious U-shaped settee and dining table on the starboard side.
The galley features a huge amount of bench space for preparing meals. The twin stainless sinks have chopping board covers that further increase the usable bench space. There is plenty of good storage options with well-ventilated cabinet doors. The twin burner stove and oven has an opening hatch directly above it to take care of the cooking smells and heat. There is a generous sized top loading fridge with icebox to keep the food and drinks chilled. Indeed, this is a galley that has been well designed for cooking up a storm in.
'Celeste' features the highly desirable twin double cabin layout. The forward cabin has a very comfortable sized double bed, a hanging wardrobe, and three opening hatches provide superb ventilation. The port aft cabin has a huge double bed, two opening hatches provide good ventilation, and the port hole window delivers ocean glimpses and some lovely natural light.
The bathroom is massive for a yacht of this size. So big in fact, that it wouldn't look out of place on a 45 footer. The standout feature is the separate shower stall. You won't have to worry about wet toilet seats on this boat! There is also a wet locker that is accessible through the aft cabinet door in the shower stall. Hot water runs off shore power or is engine driven.
The cockpit has a very clean uncluttered layout. All of the running rigging runs aft to the two primary winches on the cabin top. The helm seat folds back to provide easy access to the swim platform. The large pedestal houses all of the instrumentation where it is in easy reach from the helm. The fixed saloon table provides very good bracing while underway, and two fold out side tables combine to create a large cockpit dining table. Under the cockpit seats there is a very deep and spacious storage compartment, large enough to easily accommodate the inflatable dinghy and a multitude of other accessories and necessities.
Celeste was recently hauled out in May 2022 and had all of the skin fittings and ball valves replaced, new Jabsco toilet pump, new dripless shaft seal, and was antifouled with Hempel Globic 9000. Other recent maintenance and upgrades of note include, new lifelines 2021, new fridge compressor 2021 and all of the keel bolts were replaced in August 2020.
Celeste has been extremely well maintained by her current owner and presents in beautiful condition both inside and out. An inspection of this well-presented yacht will not disappoint. But you had better hurry, because modern production boats like Celeste are as rear as hens' teeth in the current WA market and I would not expect her to be on the market long. So pick up the phone and give Chris a call on 0428 444 727, to arrange an inspection before it's too late.
