Description: Bernie Berkshire 40ft Pilothouse Ketch
The stunning "Melaleuca" is a famous Tasmanian vessel with an incredibly history! Owned by the legendary Denny King who wrote "King of the Southwest" about his wilderness adventures, this vessel was used to transport goods and people between Hobart and the remote Port Davey in Tasmania's rugged South West Coast. Built by a shipwright out of Celery Top Pine over Blue Gum frames, it has certainly proven itself to be strong and capable in even the most challenging conditions. This vessel has been lovingly restored and upgraded by fastidious owners to now be a comfortable family cruiser who's sea keeping abilities are beyond question. It presents in excellent condition throughout and is ready for its next adventure. Whether you want to cruise the Channel, around Tasmania, or further afield, this is a vessel that can do it all in traditional style!

Stepping inside, the pilothouse is light, airy, and features excellent seating. The panoramic visibility is exceptional, and makes this a great space to relax whether underway or in your favourite anchorage. To starboard is the internal helm station. This is well equipped with basic electronics and engine controls. Just a few easy steps down leads to the galley. This features a 3 burner metho stove, large icebox, 2 stainless steel sinks, and fresh water with a manual pump. The saloon is forward with a generous folding leaf dinette, and seating for 6 in comfort. The accommodation is excellent for cruising with family and friends, with a total of 8 single berths. The interior is complete with private toilet in the forepeak.

Outside, the cockpit has a second helm, ideal for more active sailing in warm weather. The sailing systems are simple with the two furling headsails, and main and mizzen in boom bags with lazy jacks, making the vessel easily managed short handed. There is easy access around the wide side decks and the solid guard rails provide excellent security. Up on the bow there is a heavy duty manual anchor winch, and the generous bow sprit is in excellent condition.

This vessel is powered by a well maintained and reliable Ford Bowman 4 Cylinder 60HP Diesel Engine. This provides easy and economical cruising at 6 to 7 knots. There is excellent access to the vessel under the floor of the pilothouse for hassle free servicing.

This vessel really is something special. A part of Tasmania's unique maritime history, it is sure to impress on inspection! For more information please call Jo Breen on 0432031100 or John Radonic on 0459322862.
