Moody is a CAL 21 flush deck, swing keel trailer sailer, built by Jensen Marine in Queensland.
(NB this CAL 21 is not the same as the US-designed CAL 21). For more detail, see the Crawford Marine CAL 21 brochure along with a comprehensive Cruising Helmsman pdf article reviewing the Australian CAL 21 which is available at the 'Presentation' link below).
Moody is a great example of a trailerable yacht combining both fixed ballast encapsulated within the hull, along with a swing keel, enabling her to either be beached or anchored in very shallow water - eg 0.25m. Easy to just step off the stern and wade to the beach - saves having to pump up the dinghy.
Moody has been a delight to own and sail, having been regularly day sailed in the ACT on Lake Burley Griffin and cruised for up to a week at a time on Jervis Bay. Easy boom roller reefing means she can be comfortably sailed in fresh to strong winds. Her integrated ballast gives her a sea kindly motion in rougher water, and her flush deck enables safe and easy movement forward for sail changes or anchoring.
Moody has a comfortable, very secure cockpit which can accommodate 4 adults, featuring stainless steel safety/grab rails all round, along with a cleverly recessed traveller forward which maximises cockpit space and makes for comfort when at anchor: Moody's 6'4" skipper can comfortably stretch out full length on the cockpit seats. A bimini provides shade aft of the boom. With the tiller tied up out of the way, the cockpit can be completely shaded by the bimini and a boom tent awning, and provides extra living space at anchor or on a mooring.
The cockpit also features a cavernous cockpit locker on the starboard side for easy access to fenders, swim ladder and other gear, along with a separate vented/externally draining fuel locker aft, and separate insulated and drained ice box.
The cabin sleeps two adults (including the 6'4" skipper) comfortably, and could easily accommodate a family of four. The cabin has good sitting head room for meals inside in inclement weather, with a clever folding table that stows away under the starboard quarter berth.
Moody is a simple, reliable and dry boat with forgiving seakeeping characteristics. She is ideal for those learning to sail, or who want a compact, trailerable cruising vessel for holidays on the water away from the masses and avoiding the expenses of caravan parks or camp sites. She can be used as a caravan for sleeping accommodation en route to slightly undermore distant destinations like the Myall Lakes or Port Stephens.
Moody is an ideal vessel for exploring the delights of Jervis Bay Marine Park, with launching options at Callala Bay, Huskisson or Myola around 2 1/2 hours from Canberra, or other destinations further afield such as Batemans Bay and the Clyde River (she fits under the new Batemans Bay bridge), Twofold Bay, Pittwater and the Hawkesbury, Myall Lakes etc.
Moody's 8hp two stroke Mercury outboard engine has been conscientiously maintained, starts first time and runs well.
Moody has been stored dry under covers on her trailer by her current owners for the last 7 years. The trailer has been extensively rebuilt by Resort Trailers in Queanbeyan (receipts available) and presents in excellent condition.
