"Heartsease" -- Classic 1897 Bailey Yacht
Offered for sale for the first time in 50 years, *Heartsease* is a rare and beautifully preserved classic yacht with a remarkable Australasian maritime history. The owner is open to offers.
Designed by renowned New Zealand naval architect Mr. J. G. Trevithick and built in 1897 by celebrated boatbuilder Mr. Charles Bailey Jnr, *Heartsease* was originally commissioned by a wealthy businessman intending to sail around the world. Tragically, the voyage was cut short following the owner's death in Australia in the early 1900s.
While much of her early history remains undocumented, it is known that *Heartsease* later served for many years as a customs vessel, prized for her exceptional speed and performance under sail.
In the early 1940s, she was acquired by a young shipwright who undertook a comprehensive refit. During the early 1950s, she was sold to a Melbourne doctor who kept her moored at Salt Pan Cove in Pittwater. In 1968, ownership passed to Mr. Cliff Jones before the current owners purchased her in 1974.
For the past five decades, the current owners have meticulously maintained *Heartsease*, preserving her in beautiful condition while sailing extensively throughout the South Pacific. Her voyages have included Nouméa, the New Hebrides (now Vanuatu), Fiji, Tasmania, and much of Australia's east coast.
Now, after 50 years of cherished ownership, the time has come for *Heartsease* to begin her next chapter with a new custodian.
