Custodian Classic Boat Sales is privileged to offer to a new custodian, the most beautiful John Atkins, designed New Zealand Kauri Gaff Rigged Cutter TAWHIRI.
TAWHIRI is 35ft on deck and 40ft LOA with a beam of 10ft.
Built to the John Atkin VIXEN design.
TAWHIRI'S is just 43 years young and since her building she has only had two owners!
'In 1980 Keith and Maggie Stock visited Smiths Boat Yard in Whangàrei New Zealand to place an order for their new yacht.
Built to the Vixen design by John Atkin, TAWHIRI was built from the finest inch and a quarter New Zealand Kauri with laid teak decking and coamings. Below deck the feast of beautiful timber continues with acres of Mahogany and more New Zealand Kauri.
TAWHIRI easily handled pole masted gaff rig is so beautiful balanced that even her designer was bemused when Kieth and Maggie decided to fit an Aries self steering wind vane, not needed John Atkin explained, "The boat steers itself.
When not under sail TAWHIRI sallys forth under the power of her immaculately maintained 30HP Lister Diesel.
From the day of her launching TAWHIRI has been maintained with meticulous attention from stem to stern.
Over the last two years the second owners have been preparing TAWHIRI for a trip back to New Zealand, a list of this work is shown in the following photos. Unfortunately life had other ideas and so TAWHIRI is now looking for new custodians!
TAWHIRI is currently moored at Cygnet in Tasmania AU.
