42 Foot John Alden Malibar 2 Schooner. Beautiful timber hull and deck. Professionally built, with lead keel, for sale.
A great opportunity for budding boat builder, or anyone with the desire to build a wooden boat with the important part done.
Materials used for hull and deck:
Hull is made from clear, air-dried Celery Top Pine for planking. Steam-bent, laminated ribs, of specially selected hard wood. Heart in Iron Bark keel. All nails are copper, roved and plugged with Celery Top plugs. Silicone bronze screws for all other fastenings. 5.5 tonnes lead keel. Deck is Queensland White Beech.
The boat is situated near Hastings, Victoria, and is stored under cover, where it can also be worked on if someone wants to finish it on-site. Sitting on a steel cradle for easy transportation if necessary. A great article was written by the chaps from 'Southern Woodenboat Sailing', July 2021 edition, who came and visited the boat and wrote about it. See article with photos attached. Thank you 'Southern Woodenboat Sailing' authors.
Could be sold hull and keel only. I have an engine to go with it - a new Perkins 4108 Marine Diesel with a V-drive Herth gearbox. New/old stock. Many fittings and fixtures of the correct era for the fitout in bronze.
Timber stocks to finish the boat: Lewis clear-grained Oregon timber for masts, gaffes, booms and browsprit. Beautiful, large piece of Celery Top Pine for rudder. Teak for cabin sides and Honduras Mahogony for fitout interior, and more. Too much to mention in an ad.
