Sandpiper of Goolwa was design and built to survey for her current owner to sail the lower lakes. The owner has been a professional yacht master and captain of many river boat still operating on the Murray River. He is also a highly respected member of the Seven Seas Club with many incredible stories of boats he has managed and is still currently involved with. 'Sandpiper' is a shallow draft Cat rigged yacht with two dager boards to keep her on track. She has a 0.4m draft and with the dager boards up enabling her to cruise waters many other yachts cant explore. She is perfect for river cruising as a sailing yacht, motor cruiser or live a board. Constructed in November 1984, with an aluminium build designed for both comfort and safety in sailing. The vessel is equipped with comprehensive navigation and safety equipment, ensuring a secure and enjoyable sailing experience.
The vessel's specifications include an 8-metre length, a 2.85-metre beam, and a 0.4-metre draft, with a total weight of 2 tonnes. It is rigged as a catamaran ketch with two masts, lee boards, and aluminium spars. The standing rigging is composed of stainless-steel wire, while the running rigging is synthetic. The vessel is cat rigged with main and mizzen masts and includes a spare mainsail on board.
The onboard equipment and safety features are extensive, including a Raymarine autopilot, inverter, and an outboard engine that has recently been serviced. The vessel is also equipped with various kitchen and safety gear, such as fire extinguishers, lifejackets, flares, marine radios, and charts. The hull is constructed of welded aluminium plates with aluminium frames and stringers and features a 10 mm aluminium box keel. The engine is a Yamaha 20HP petrol mounted on a bracket, supported by stainless steel fuel and water tanks, a battery with a solar panel, and multiple pumps for bilge management.
This vessel is ideal for extended cruising in the Coorong, lakes and river.
