Ready to go and priced to sell, late model, 12m 'Sarah design' at a bargain price! Selling due to health issue making our planned trip to Indonesia in 2026 not possible - Located in Darwin, this is your chance to buy a great value, late model catamaran in 'ready to go' condition! Perfect for joining the Darwin to Banda Neira Race/Cruise departing 1st August this year or for exploring the Kimberley Coast during the Top End dry season. Tupela is Australian Registered and ready to go.
My wife and I had a wonderful 6mth cruising Tupela from Townsville to Darwin in 2025 and have berthed her in Bayview Marina for the cyclone season. Tupela is designed by Peter Snell and was built in Tasmania by Peter and Deb Imms who have made a comprehensive blog of the build process, which is well worth reading. Https://pauseandreflect. Blog/.
Tupela was built with great attention to detail and has proven to be a very capable cruiser. She has a solid and sensible rig featuring a reefable main and 2 x Profurl furling headsails, making her easy to handle with 1 or 2 people. (We are both in our 70's and can handle the rig easily). From Townsville to Darwin, we regularly cruised at 8-10kts in 15 -17kts. She is relatively light weight compared to other cruising catamarans (approx 5t) allowing her to sail well in light winds. We added a 160l/h water maker in early 2025, and have bought a brand new asymetrical spinnaker (never used) in preparation for light wind sailing in Indonesia. She is powered by 2 x Yamaha 9.9hp High Thrust engines that are not only very economical to run, but save weight and lift out of water when sailing, thus reducing drag and increasing speed. Tupela also has a solid, very sheltered bimini top that provides excellent shelter from the sun and elements, while providing a great platform for 600w solar. There are side covers that make the cockpit a dry space in rain. She has excellent ventilation, with large opening front cockpit windows, and large drop down windows between the cockpit and saloon. Living area has room for 6-8 to sit around the dining table while the cockpit is safe and comfortable with room for 6 plus people to sit comfortably. The solid bimini connects with the Targa bar providing a solid point for the dinghy to be raised and stored. Galley is down, with 4 burner gas stove, oven and upright fridge/freezer. There are 2 x private cabins with queen sized beds, one shower room, hot/cold water via 12/240v electric heater. Electric mascerating toilet and holding tank. Integrated Victron 12/240v lithium system with 300ah batteries and 600 w solar, all backed up via a Honda generator. Tupela has 5 water tight bulkheads to provide positive buoyancy.
Very good deck storage and fully equipped for offshore sailing. B&G Chart plotter, wind, speed and depth instruments. Autopilot. AIS. VHF radio and epirb. Flares and life jackets all in date. 300 lt water storage and pressurised fresh water.
Full survey from April 2025 available.
Note: Tupela is currently cyclone 'prepared' whilst moored at Bayview Marina (sails off and stored below etc, dehumidifiers installed below etc). Photos here are from last season and vary from current set up while stored for cyclone season. She is regularly inspected and engines run up to temperatures every few weeks.
