2012 Grainger 50 - Safiri

Safiri is a superb example of Tony Grainger's celebrated performance cruising catamarans, professionally built by Hart Marine in Melbourne and thoughtfully upgraded for serious blue-water sailing. Combining lightweight epoxy composite construction with strength and balance, she delivers the rare blend of exhilarating performance, refined comfort and genuine offshore capability.

With an impressive 8.1 metre beam, mini keels and a light displacement of just 8,500kg, Safiri offers efficient passagemaking and responsive handling under both sail and power. Twin Yanmar 54hp diesels, freshly serviced in 2025, drive her comfortably at 6.6 knots with speeds up to 8.5 knots when required, complemented by SD50 saildrives and feathering Seahawk propellers.

Designed for extended cruising and liveaboard comfort, the interior is light, spacious and practical. The saloon enjoys 1.95 metres headroom, with up to 2.0 metres in the hulls. Accommodation comprises four generous cabins including two king berths and two doubles, ideal for family cruising or hosting guests. The well appointed galley in the starboard hull features new Isotherm refrigeration and freezer systems installed in 2025, a three burner gas stove with oven, stainless steel sink and gas alarm. Two bathrooms with electric freshwater Vacuflush toilets, a 160 litre hot water system and 1,500 litre water capacity provide excellent autonomy.

Off-grid capability is a standout feature. A substantial lithium battery bank, 1,780W of solar, 3,000W Victron inverter, 2.6kVA generator and 120L per hour watermaker support extended remote cruising in comfort. New 2024 sails including mainsail and genoa, along with a screecher, furling systems, bowsprit and electric Anderson winches, make shorthanded sailing effortless.

Safety and ground tackle are equally well considered, with a four person liferaft, EPIRB to 2028, six electric bilge pumps and a 55kg Rocna anchor with 80 metres of 10mm chain and Anderson windlass new in 2024.

Recently antifouled in November 2025 and Australian tax paid, Safiri presents as a highly capable, performance oriented cruising catamaran ready to depart from Hardys Bay NSW for her next offshore passage.
