Boat for sale - make me an offer.
This Hitchiker 33 was designed as a cruising catamaran with an excellent layout for family adventures. The Hitchiker 33 was designed by John Hitch and built by Greg Winter the previous owner with fibreglass vinylester and foam construction. There is also a survey available from May 2024 on request.
Accommodation for at least five comfortably with two double bunks forward of the main cabin between the hulls and a single bunk aft on the stbd. Side. A large galley on the stbd. Side with everything you need oven, sink, SMEV 2 burner gas stove, fridge/freezer and a larger fridge/freezer (separate units, fridge/freezer has the ability to remove the freezer section and be utilised a larger fridge. Larger unit can be used as a fridge or freezer). The galley and head have internal undercover sideports. Allows views of the water passing and both hulls have side ports forward and aft, all sideports have removable fly screens. The boat is also fitted with Hurricane vents throughout the boat to allow normal circulation when onboard but also when the boat is closed up. Sirocco fans fitted in Owner's bunk and main cabin.
A true long term, live aboard cruising catamaran comes completely fitted out, all you need to do is move onboard and restock the galley. It was also built to be self sufficient as far as possible eg. 8 x Solar panels with individual controllers charging the various batteries, 2 x 9Kg LPG bottles for galley use (changeover valve located in port storage), 1x 9Kg LPG bottle for the Ziegler and Brown BBQ, water catchment area located on cabin top with dedicated pipework running to cabin sides (portable hoses connect to reach water tank filling points. ) The 100L Freezer/fridge and 65L Fridge are fed off the 2x 200AH Deep cycle lithium Renogy batteries. All lights, pumps and all electrical and electronic controls are fed from 2 x 105AH AGM batteries. The 2 starter motors and anchor winch is fed from 1x 100AH Marien Deep cycle battery. In an emergency, the AGM could be connected to the Marien battery to start the engines. With the 2 fridge/freezers on 24/7, the batteries will deplete to 90% at 6am and the solar chargers will charge the batteries fully (100%) by 1pm every day. The other solar chargers would charge the AGM batteries to 100% by 12pm every day.
Having a draft of 1 metre it allows catamarans the ability to get into places deeper draft boats can not, and it allows the boat to exit/return to Lake Macquarie.
The boat was antifouled in July 2025 during stop over at Airlie Beech / Lindeman Island.
Spares in the haul: White paint to repaint whole boat. Antifoul paint for next antifoul. 13 x 20L fuel cans, 7 x 20L water cans, Honda 2kVA generator. Spares to repair all minor repairs.
Bought the Catamaran for $82000 in May 2024 Marmong Point, Lake Macquarie, NSW, were it was moored until April 2025. I have upgraded the complete solar system, blue tooth controllers, and various wiring and circuit protection. Installed a working autopilot. Installed various new electronic devices: Raymarine Axiom 7""fishfinger/ plotter, i70 display with depth, speed and wind transducers with ITC-5 Transducer Converter and GME AIS.
My wife and I sailed 2500NM, from Newcastle to Brisbane, cairns and then on to Thursday Island and further to Gove / Nhulunbuy where I currently work.
During the sailing from Brisbane to cairns the port side bedroom stairs dislodged completely.
During the sailing from Thursday Island to Gove I discovered that the starboard side stairs starting to come loose. Each compartment where the stairs are attached, a water leak started. (40ml of water per hour) Every 3 to 4 hours the 2 floors where dried up of 120- 150ml water. After 1 day of anchoring up, the Catamaran stopped leaking in. Last 4 photos and video shows the damage. I have sailed to Bromby Island and back to Nhulunbuy, and the 2 compartments started leaking again and stopped again.
I have looked on the outside and inside, but can't see or find the origin of the hairline crack.
Because the catamaran is in Gove, no shipwright is in this area to assess and recommend repair process. Talking to the previous owner, his thoughts is the water comes from the various forward hatches. Talking to various sailors / friends, they recommend to repair/strengthening the 2x starboard bulkheads, and replicate repairs onto port side bulkheads. Apply 1 or 2 layers of Fiberglass cloth / felt 300g/m^2 to inside of portside and starboard side haul.
Before repainting the deck white, we were going to remove and reseal all the top windows. No windows are curently leaking water during rain.
I don't have the skillset to make the repairs, and therefor wish to sell the Catamaran ASAP and "AS IS"
