Extensively upgraded and meticulously maintained, Rum Rebellion is an absolutely turnkey yacht, ready for anything from Saturday afternoon racing to a Sydney Hobart campaign- She has already qualified for the 2025 Hobart. Often on the podium in the two handed division, Rum Rebellion is for sale for a fraction of her replacement cost- in fact, for less than the cost of a brand new J99, you get everything you could need to get on the podium- from her carbon floorboards to her new sail wardrobe, her passionate owner has left nothing to chance in the preparation of this yacht, and inspections are encouraged. Even the kettle is titanium in the pursuit of weight gains!
Get comfortable- the list of upgrades is phenomenal.
Rum Rebellion is in full Cat 1 safety compliance and all safety equipment including flares and first aid supplies have been updated in 2025. She is weighed and optimised with a current IRC Certificate as at July 2025 (IRC 1.006).
Her rig has been inspected each year, most recently in June 2025 prior to the Sydney to Gold Coast Race (Rig report available).
Delivered in October 2021, she immediately had her hull faired and epoxy coated. She has been refaired, sprayed and polished each year since, most recently in September 2025. At each haul out her engine is serviced and her keelbolts retorqued.
In 2024 her Keel Fin Bulb Laminate was also stripped, re-laminated and re-faired. In 2024 her rudder bearings were replaced. Each year all flush seacocks are cleaned and lubricated. In August 2024 a new a gori racing prop was fitted, and the sail drive serviced.
A great deal of effort has been undertaken to ensure she is as light, strong and as durable as possible. Bulkheads have been reinforced, vulnerable flush fitting sea cocks protected and everything correctly secured. To optimise for IRC and maximise weight loss, her floorboards, nav desk lid and table have been rebuilt in bespoke carbon and the washboards and head door replaced with composite foam sandwich. In 2024 a custom sliding carbon dodger was built to further enhance weather protection for the crew. Winches can be operated with this in the closed position and it slides open to allow letterbox spinnaker drops. And, of course, she has a carbon fibre toilet!
All safety equipment is professionally labelled and placed to ensure optimal weight distribution. Water is plumbed with two 50 Ltr collapsable water tanks symmetrically placed to ensure Cat 1 compliance and better weight distribution. An additional manual bilge pump was also installed. Additional fuel to meet Sydney to Hobart compliance is uniquely stored in bulkhead mounted port and starboard 7.5 litre jerry cans.
Enormous thought and investment has gone into Rum Rebellions rig to ensure optimumstrength and usability. Her carbon fibre bowsprit and tiller have been reinforced and re-sprayed with two pack. Her Bobstay has been redesigned with premium cordage and fittings to ensure adequate support for the furling
Code Zero and a custom stainless fitting was engineered to run the two tack line system.
At launch, an additional fractional halyard with sheave box and monocle were installed along with a spinnaker pole traveller with butt up/but down control at the mast.
Jason Neuhouse from Diverse rigging has overseen her rigging program, highlights of which include-
Rod forestay to ensure a more stable rig and a Cyclops load cell fitted.
All Halyards have been replaced with high quality cordage, and in 2025 her vang and boom were removed, vang serviced with a new vang end fitting installed. A new vang base and gooseneck swivel captive bolt system engineered by Whale Spar rigging and installed. Her outhaul, jib outhaul and jib car stops were also replaced this year, as was reefing line 2 with dyneema.
All stern bilge pump outlets have had non return valves fitted. A custom drainage system was constructed to ensure water entering the engine venting system in a following sea was directed overboard (port and starboard). In addition one way valves have been fitted to the bilge weep holes between bulkheads to ensure bilge water does not flow between bulkheads from the bilge when the boat is heeled.
In 2024 all winches were replaced with Ronstan Quick Tail sheet winches- these are fantastic for short handed sailing. All winches are serviced regularly by Knights Engineering.
