The Sun Odyssey 409 is a past European Yacht of the Year with impeccable sailing manners, a comfortable cockpit with substantial drop-leaf cockpit table, twin wheel with plenty of cockpit stowage and neat design elements such as cockpit speakers and deck fillers neatly hidden under the helm seats. It has a single rudder, but a chined hull, for great balance and directional stability.

Having the self-tacking jib means that for enclosed water sailing or short-handed sailing this yacht is a breeze, but for more rewarding sailing, or perhaps even the occasional twilight race or fun regatta then the short overlap powers the yacht nicely. The mainsail is fully battened with roller cars on the battens and is 3-reef, while the spinnaker is like new.

Down below there is a generous L-shaped galley to starboard with nav' table to port, then a U-shaped dinette to starboard with bench seating oppositive. The saloon table folds out over the pedestal to double it's size, and a simple mechanism allows the table top to lower gently to quickly form an additional double. The forward cabin is spacious with lots of floor space and locker storage, while the aft double is Queen sized. Aft to port is the head with a toilet/shower compartment, behind which is a large dry storage locker for those bulky items such as the cockpit cushions and spinnaker.

This yacht was antifouled last October and the engine which has a modest 1200 hours on it was serviced in November.

The 409 is a joy to sail, and in this payout in particular, is a very comfortable yacht to spend extended time onboard. The perfect East coast yacht that is a very capable cruiser, but has a sparkle of performance that means that many are enjoyed for twilight racing and more.
