Nautilus Yacht Management is proud to present to market this beautifully presented Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 479,2017 version. The only one currently available on the market equipped for serious offshore passage and with most of its Bluewater cruising equipment installed between 2022 and 2025. Built as a safe and seaworthy passage-maker, the Sun Odyssey 479 is a wonderful freedom platform for a family or couple to sail around the world. Easy to handle and simple to operate for beginners, this model is also wonderfully nimble and satisfying to a more performance-oriented sailor.
With a powerful solar array (1600W) located on her strong and beautifully engineered arch and extensive power storage capacity, Tigh Na Mara will give you the independence you need away from marinas for long periods of time without the need of a cumbersome and diesel-hungry generator.
Tigh Na Mara is equipped with all the safety equipment required for offshore passage. Her sails are in great condition and her running rigging is brand new. Her standing rigging was fully replaced in 2021.
This beautiful yacht's interior would rival a new boat, with undamaged timberwork and surfaces, clean and dry bilges and an immaculate engine room. Storage is abundant and unlike many modern yachts, perfectly adequate for a live-aboard family.
Tigh Na Mara comes turn key and with everything you need to just step aboard and head on your new adventures with nothing more to spend.

A WORD FROM THE OWNERS:
"Tigh na Mara is Jeanneau 479, launched in 2017. She is a three-cabin, three head, three shower version and had one private US owner before we purchased her in 2021. Our understanding is that the previous owner placed the vessel with the Sunsail Charter pool in the BVIs in late 2017. She was then known as Dot'n'Fran and registered in California. In 2019 she was on the hard when Hurricane Irma struck and the mast that was stored on the side deck lifted and damaged the spreaders. The mast landed on the hard and the spreaders and standing rigging were replaced. She had very light use for only two seasons due to a collapse in charters after Hurricane Irma in 2019 and then covid. The owner was a US serviceman who was posted abroad, could not use the boat himself and he eventually decided to sell.
The boat was sailed to Saint Maarten where we took her on. Having spent a considerable sum bringing her up to spec for ocean passaging we sailed her to New Zealand by way of the Antilles, South America, Panama, Galapagos and French Polynesia. Improvements made are detailed further below.
As a couple, we had never sailed before but had done our research and decided 'Tiggy' would be the ideal boat for us. She has an excellent pedigree, is forgiving and easy to sail short-handed and is a very spacious and comfortable long-term live-aboard. As non-sailors it was a steep learning curve for us but Tiggy never let us down and looked after us well. We always feel safe even in heavy, mid-ocean weather. Her sea-keeping is excellent and the shoal keel has proved invaluable around the islands where a small draft is often the difference between getting into a sheltered bay or not.
While we have had up to eight people aboard for short periods (the saloon converts into a comfortable mid-ship double-bed), most of the time it is just the two of us. We like the fact that the extra length and beam means we have very generous living and storage space. The cockpit becomes the main living area in good weather and the swim platform makes swimming, diving, fishing and boarding all very easy to do.
Maybe our best call was the addition of a big stern arch. What we lose in purist aesthetic we more than make up for in abundant electricity with the solar panels giving us 1480W. So many yachts struggle for power but we very rarely need to run the engine for electricity and do not need a genset. We have never needed to run the engine during a passage and the panels provide enough juice for the water-maker, auto-helm, nav. Instruments and microwave. We even have a hot shower when we run the immersion heater.
(The story of our learning to sail and cross the ocean is published on Amazon - 'If Only Out of Curiosity' by Chris Constance. It is accompanied by a library of photos on FB, search 'If Only Out of Curiosity' to see pictures of the boat. It will give you a taste of what you are missing!).
After crossing the Pacific we spent a couple of summers in NZ (where our daughter lives) and we have enjoyed coastal cruising on the east coast of North Island. We have taken the opportunity of being in NZ to maintain and upgrade the boat and in April 2025 we sailed to Fiji for the season. 'Tiggy' is a big part of our lives and we have loved (virtually!) every minute of our time aboard her. It is with enormous misgivings that we have decided to part ways. Sandy, the boss, has developed a health issue that has required us to take trips to the UK and we have reluctantly realised we can no longer ocean passage or live aboard long-term. We had always planned to keep Tiggy for another 3 years but needs must and we have decided to down-size to a boat in which we can coastal cruise in NZ while allowing us to put some cash into a property ashore. " Chris and Sandy, Fiji August 2025
