Knysna Yacht Company 440

2006 Knysna 440 'Caterpillar' now exclusively listed for Sale with Yoti, in Newport, Queensland, Australia.

Caterpillar is a 2006 Knysna 440 -- a boutique, South African-built bluewater catamaran, thoughtfully upgraded and exceptionally well set up for extended, independent cruising. Designed by Angelo Lovranos and handcrafted by the Knysna Yacht Company, the 440 is admired for its solid construction, efficient hull design, and owner-focused layout.

A major refit in 2019, followed by consistent annual upgrades, brings Caterpillar to a modern cruising standard. Twin Yanmar 3YM30AE engines with SD25 saildrives (2019), upgraded steering (2022), new rudder shafts and bearings (2025), and comprehensive Racor fuel management ensure mechanical confidence offshore.

The vessel is impressively self-sufficient, powered by 1,990W of solar, 1,200Ah Lithionics lithium batteries, dual Victron inverter/chargers, high-output alternators with Wakespeed smart regulation, and a CruiseRO 114L/h watermaker. Refrigeration is abundant with multiple Isotherm fridges, two ARB freezers, and a dedicated saloon drinks fridge. A custom stainless solar arch supports the AB aluminium RIB (2019) and Yamaha Enduro outboard (2023).

Inside, the three-cabin owner's layout offers a full-beam master suite and two welcoming guest cabins. Recent interior upgrades include UltraLeather upholstery, Oceanair hatch screens, new linens, and tasteful pearwood joinery. The well-designed galley features induction cooking, a Samsung convection oven, generous storage, and a wet-bar with UVC-LED purified water.

Sailing systems are equally well refined: a Sparcraft spars, full standing rigging replacement (2019), Harken battcar mainsail system, Harken ESP genoa furler, and a Facnor continuous furler for the Code 0 and asymmetric spinnaker with top-down furling capability. Seven Lewmar winches--one electric--keep sail handling efficient and manageable.

The Garmin electronics suite includes a Garmin 8610 MFD Plotter, Fantom radar, AIS 800, Panoptix forward-looking sonar, Reactor 40 autopilot, and full NMEA2000 integration. Antifoul and Propspeed (May 2025) complete an already comprehensive offering.

Well cared for and significantly upgraded, Caterpillar presents as a capable and inviting Knysna 440 -- a genuinely offshore-ready cruising platform ideal for those seeking comfort, independence, and thoughtful design.
