Description: Lightwave 45 SP
The Lightwave 45 always stands out as the perfect blend of performance, comfort and price! Karanga (Maori meaning "Welcome") has demonstrated that it is no exception to this, having taken us safely and comfortably around the Great Barrier Reef, across to New Zealand, up to Fiji and Vanuatu and then down to Tasmania and now on our way back north. We will be very sad to let her go to new owners, however our circumstances have changed and the price has been discounted for an immediate sale.

Fully equipped for liveaboard, she boasts 2 fridges (132 and 98 litres), plus 99 litre freezer (240 volt), a microwave oven plus benchtop electric oven, 140 litre/hour AC watermaker, all powered by 500 Amp hours of lithium-phosphate batteries (the good non-burning kind!) via a Victron 3000 watt/120 amp inverter charger and charged by 2000 watts of solar panels plus 250 amp large-frame alternator. The wiring and connections are a work of high quality art and craftmanship - in keeping with the Lightwave ethos. The high bridgedeck makes a huge difference in almost eliminating the common catamaran issue of slamming. Already AMSA registered for international voyages.

The aft (third) double cabin has been converted to a walk-in pantry, but can easily be converted back. The port forward (4th) single cabin currently houses tools and spares. The main cabins are both queen sized and very roomy.

The starboard side galley, with stainless steel bench, is a clever mid design of neither up nor down and allows continued participation by the chef in communal banter.

The aft cockpit includes an excellent helm position, fully protected without compromising 360 visibility. The cockpit roof has been installed 100mm higher than standard, for extra headroom. The seating accommodates many visitors, comfortably protected from the elements and with ready access to the drinks fridge while enjoying music from the Fusion stereo and outside speakers. Flooring is very attractive synthetic FlexiTeak. Two doggy/kiddy doors shut off access to the rear walk-through transom and sugar-scoops.

The 50 hp motors provide excellent, quiet propulsion via the saildrives and 3-bladed Volvo folding props. Maintenance on the low-hour motors is an enjoyment, in the clean and spacious engine rooms. The starboard alternator has been replaced with a Mark Grasser large-frame 250 amp alternator, with a separate fan-cooled rectifier. This means it can produce up to 250 amps continuously, without significant de-rating as the rectifier heats up.

The hulls were sanded back last year and recoated with 3 layers of top-quality ablative Jotun SeaQuantum Ultra S, which should be good for up to 90 months.

The targa, or solar arch, is a work of art plus superb engineering. 3 panels of 400 watts each on the arch plus 2 panels of 400 watts each on the cockpit roof create a massive measured 2200 watts of peak output.
