'AZIZA' a well known yacht to yachties in and around Hobart. Constructed by Shipwright Chris Burke, this one owner classic has been loved and maintained to a high standard since her launch.
All yacht owners have a dream, in this case it started with the vision of building something special, the challenge of wooden boat building in predominately native timbers. Most would know of the designs of Lyle Hess, this dream was also inspired by the stories read in the popular books of Lin & Larry Pardy. As the owner was a novice, inspiration came from their message of keep it simple, only have systems you can repair.... That dream was realised in 2008!
'AZIZA's' 2008 construction is very practical without sacrificing any of the beauty of the Tasmanian timbers available at the time. Her hull is of watertight, strip planked western red cedar, with swamp gum frames, the deck is teak and her cabin and trim are Celery Top, Flame Myrtle and Huon Pine.
The dream continued, inspired by her curvaceous design, steadying long keel, warm timbers and robust simplicity.
The decision was made to put theory to the test with a mostly single handed passage from Hobart to Roslyn Bay, Queensland and back. 'AZIZA' underwent an extensive upgrade to all of her systems and infrastructure to enable her to handle whatever mother nature would throw at her. Needless to say the trip was achieved with success with the yacht itself benefiting from the numerous bluewater upgrades to her inventory.
As with all Lyle Hess designs, 'AZIZA' attracts attention wherever she ties up. Stepping on board, one is taken by the spaciousness of this 32' design from her ample deck space, roomy cockpit and breathtaking saloon with full headroom. The native timbers used throughout certainly steel the show!
